Title: What's your cabinet's name
Post by: menace on May 13, 2004, 07:55:02 am: with the hundreds of cabs being produced here (well, maybe dozens ;)) I wanted to see what names people have used so I don't repeat them when I'm trying to think of one. I would hate to inadvertently take someone's name and not even realize it (unless it was a good one ;D)

my cab: gamestorm,mini-cade (although someone may have had this before me)

I say "completed" in a very general manner, mind you... what MAME cab is truly ever completed?

I hung out at one called "The Dream Machine", so that would work out well. Our nickname for it was "The Magnet", because we couldn't walk past it without being pulled in.

But the idea of naming a cab after an arcade that you used to hang out at is pretty cool, actually. I used to hang out at one called "Games Galore", and my cab actually came from there (not directly, but I found a token in the cash box from there so I know it used to "live" there). That name is also descriptive of what the cab offers. So if I ever did name it, that is what I would call it.

NO ONE knows what it is or even what it says, (what's MEME? MIME? MEME?). I wish I had just put up a classic marquee or used a generic "arcade" marquee.

The second will be "the Davis Family Arcade" and we'll put new marquee's in each year of the Family together in front of some famous place in town. When we take down the old Marquee I'd like to build a framing box with lights in it to put the old ones.

The 3rd will be a cocktail...and I don't know about it yet. ;)

While I'm not a fan of Stephen King (despite having read about 6 of his earlier books last year), I like the name... it leads to other ideas such as "Game Tower", "MAME Tower", "Tower of MAME", etc

Nothing, but I don't think it has to. No one said cabinet names or themes have to be directly arcade related. Upright cabinet could look a little like a high rise building, no?

I'm already thinking about my 2nd cab. I want to do a camoflauge painjob with a Metal Slug theme. Not sure about the name though...

When it's done (hopefully by the end of the month) it will be known as "the Arcade Game", as in "Sweetie, the Arcade Game is taking up too much space, I think we need to move it back to the laundry room" (said by my wife, who has promised me we can move the cabinet out of the laundry room once it's playable and not Orange.
