Title: Defender joystick
Post by: Apollo on May 05, 2004, 01:38:10 am
I know this is a pretty dumb long shot but can anyone sell me one of these. One can only ask, lol.

I can sell you an equivalent one. Same basic assembly as the Defender stick, fits the Defender panel. Has black joystick ball, the repro red ball handles will fit if you drill the hole for it slightly larger.

You can also find this unit in most every Universal brand cocktail game that used a 2-way joystick.

To recap, Universal 2-way, fits the Defender panel, has most of the parts in common, and can take the repro defender stick with a small modification, and I have at least one available.

Thanks for your reply paigeoliver, it sounds like I could use that stick, any chance you can use that new camera of yours on it? Thankyou very much.

I guess, although taking photos will delay things, since I still don't have internet access at home, and now I only work at the hotel 3 days a week (went to part time, and now do construction full time).

Thanks for your help paigeoliver I really appreciate it.
I drew up the position of the joystick and buttons on my control panel to get ready to drill and I noticed that if I use a MsPac/Galag 4 way I still have room for the reverse button. So I won't be needing a 2 way as the slot for the 4 way will act as a restictor ( metal panel ).
Thankyou.

Oh, if you are going THAT route, then don't use a Ms Galapac stick, use a Wico leaf or microleaf instead, as that design allows you to install a reverse button in the CORRECT spot, rather than an inch too far over. Of course you DO have to drill the button hole right through the corner of the Wico base, but it works well, my Defender has been this way forever.

I drilled and installed the joystick and buttons today ( exact Defender measurements ). All is good, reverse is in the correct spot and the slot I drilled for the joystick works perfectly as a restrictor. To be honest I would have preferred the WICO leaf if only for the quiet action but I had the MsPac already so waste not want not.
If the MsPac is turned so that the narrowest part is top and bottom instaed of left and right like it would normally be it works great and I dont even have to damage the joystick. In a metal control panel this would be a good solution for anyone not wanting to spend $50 US or more on a Williams 2 way ( wooden panel would not work as the stick is too short and if you used a mounting plate there would be no room for the reverse button).
Hopefully this may help some others?
