Are there any emulators that support Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp?
As far as I cant tell, DAPHNE does not at this point.
-
The cvs does. Its not supported by the developers but I have used it. BTW I didn't tell you this. ;)

Why isn't it supported?
I've been waiting some time for a version of daphne that will run dl2, but reading that statement and also seeing that a port of daphne for the x-box runs dl2 I'm baffled as to why it hasn't been implemented in the PC version.
The only conclusion I can think of is legal reasons. Is that the case?
edit: OK looks like that isn't the reason. I guess patience isn't one of my strong points.
-
Yeah, apparently they aren't doing it anytime soon, unless someone else wants to work on it.....
it's in the CVS for that reason.
BAH!
Another DL2 question, Is there a version better than the cd-rom one? Digital Leisure has so many different versions of DL games it's ridiculous. They have CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, DVD-VIDEO, and now the 20th anniversary edition. WTF is wrong with these people? Is this some marketing ploy? Anywway, which version is the absolute best?
Should I go for the DVD-VIDEO and capture the video as MPEG ? Or get the 20th anniversary, which says it is already in mpeg-1 format, or what?
This cd-rom I have sucks.
-
OK...i'm either really tired or really dumb...(i'm thinking it's the latter of the 2) what is the full deff. of CVS?
-
CVS= concurrent version system. A system for updating software that has many developers and is constantly being updated.
http://www.cvshome.org/
It not fully supported becuase the driver is not finished. It needs the laser disc overlay. Don't bug the daphne people about it, they do great work and asking about unsupported games just gets the thread locked. You can compile your own!!

Did it run smoothly or was Dl2 very buggy when you played it. I love that game i want that on my cabinet
-
It plays fine, Just does not have the overlay yet. The overlay was created by the LD player in the original game and my understanding is it is still being implimented.
BTW, you mentioned you love this game, Have you played it to conclusion? It seems REALLY hard, Like Esh's only worse!

Oh, hey..so did you compile your own version to make it work, or do you just use the cvs version to play it?
just curious.

Hi,
I was wondering if any of you guys have gotten the "move beeps" to work.
Right now, when I make a move on DL2, there is no beep.
Is the beep just not supported yet?
Thanks

Is it against the 'rules' to distribute a CVS build with DL2 added in? If not, could you post it :) CVS and compiling and stuff is sort of out of my league i think...
-
Jakobud I agree completely Its way out of my league. Ive been trying to mess around with it but Im so lost its not even funny

I doubt it. Why would they do that when they actually invite people to work on it?
So, if someone wants to post a build with it enabled, that would be nice. Then maybe someone can work on it further or whatever.

Well the only way if DL2 is going to be playable on Daphne is if someone other then the Daphne team does it. They say on there website that they arent going to do it.

Daphne is very near to officially supporting Dragon's Lair 2 on a new release. All the rom versions versions have been completed and it just the overlay that needs to be completed, but it is very near. It is being worked on. Dragon's Lair 2 plays in the cvs but has no overlay. It will not be released officially until it has been completed. A new version of dvd2daph should be released at the same time to enable the mpeg's to be extracted from the DL2 DVD.
-
ok, thanks for the info NickS....so, we need the dvd version to extract the video then? dvd-rom or dvd-video?
so complicated!

I could have swore I read on their website that they werent doing it. Thats great news I cant wait.

I think they also say on the site that the 20th Anniversary DVD-ROM is the best one to get.

Yes, the 20th anniversary dvd video's are the best to get to extract the mpeg's from.

Quite a contradiction...the Daphne docs recommend the DVD-ROM version:
'For those of you who want to play Dragon's Lair or Space Ace, you are in luck because you can buy the Dragon's Lair DVD-ROM or Space Ace DVD-ROM from Digital Leisure [1] and then use a conversion utility called DVD2Daph to make everything you need to start playing DAPHNE. We recommend this route for beginners who have never used DAPHNE before.'
Although I'm sure I read that you can now use the DVD-Video version. I would still go for the DVD-ROM tho...
Edit: spelt DVD wrong!
-
If you wish to use the dvd2daph program to extract the mpeg's then the latest version recommends you use the 20th anv. dvd's for the best video quality. Although you can still use the dvd-roms if you wish.
Here is a link for the program. I do not think the author will mind.http://www.laserarchive.com/dvd2daph/ (http://www.laserarchive.com/dvd2daph/).
By the way the author of the program (Vera Lanpher) provided the voice of Daphne in Dragon's Lair.

Hey Nick, where have you gotten this information that someone is actually working on DL2 for Daphne? For the past year or two every single post I have seen in their forums about DL2 is basically that no one is gonna work on it and stop asking about it. I still don't see anything there that says it's close to being done...

From the daphne developers. They get a lot emails from people pestering them about daphne supporting DL2 so they tend to distance themselves from it on the messageboard. Actually a lot of the DL2 work was done by someone who made an unofficial daphne port for the X-box.
As far as posts go about working on it, as I said they do generally distance themselves from it but there was a recent post asking for help regarding the text overlay. This is the last remaing part and I have a link below.
