Title: transformer, ISO, tube... free in toronto
Post by: mmmPeanutButter on April 30, 2004, 08:58:01 pm
I've got a transformer, an isolation transformer, and a tube (no chasis)(some screen burn).

What are they worth?

If you want 'em... make me an offer. (edit:(they were free), now I'm keeping them)

I'm in Toronto (might be able to get them sent to north jersey at the end of may)

Isolation transformer is worthless.
Tube without chassis with screen burn is also worthless.
Centipede transformer assembly is maybe $10.

Problem with ALL that stuff (and what makes it worthless), is that dead cabinets crap that stuff out all day long (so most collectors/restorers have a lot of that stuff), which is the first factor that makes them near worthless. The second factor is that transformers are so heavy that they cost a fortune to ship.

Worthless worthless worthless.  Just what I expected.

Well, if anybody want them, let me know.  I'd prefer not  to just throw them away.

Keep them, you never know how deep you will get into the hobby. I started out thinking I was just going to have a Mame cabinet. I used to throw non-working monitors away because I thought I would never be the kind of person who could fix monitors.

I have since owned like 100 games, I can fix monitors now, and so on.  I don't throw anything away anymore. I keep all my old transformers, and such.

I'm with Paige.  Keep the ISO transformers.  I, like Paige, started out MAME only using nothing but PC parts, but now have nice hybrid machines.

Having an extra ISO transformer and Atari transformer assembly around might just be a gamesaver one day.

ISO transformers RARELY go bad, but sometimes they do.

Sometimes you will get a Nintendo cabinet with a non-nintendo monitor in it. In that case it is wise to swap the isolation transformer, as those Nintendo monitors used a lower voltage than standard monitors, and non-nintendo replacement monitors sometimes have issues caused by the lower voltage.

As for the extra Atari transformer assembly. Having a spare one (specifically a spare big blue cap), can be very helpful in troubleshooting almost ANY Atari game from 1975 onward.

Now for the spare tube. I WISH I had one.

Someday you might get a game with a vented tube, or you might vent the darn thing yourself, a spare tube with burn, while worthless when selling, is a lifesaver when you need it.

Thanks for the replys and support.  I told my girlfriend about what you said and I think she is a little scared.   :P

The problem I am having now is that I live in a one bedroom apartment with my lady.  I'm doing all of my construction in her mother's garage!  So the real issue is storage.  I'll see what I can do, but I might need to find a better home for them soon.

For now I'll keep 'em.

Thanks again.

so, my situation has changed quite a bit.  My girlfriend (of 6 years) just left me.  It sucks reading that last post.  I'm still building my cab in her mother's garage, but I'm trying to finish it quick.

So I have to get rid of this stuff.  It will be thrown in the garbage if nobody wants it.  I would hate to do it, but I don't really have a choice here.

Do you know that the power transformer works? I might take it... I hope I can just swap it into my Missile Command?? (looks like the same power supply).
