I don't think you have to clean up the images for use in vectorizing. You might even lose details cleaning it up.

An example of this is the Galaga sideart. Someone cleaned that up but in doing so replaced the top logo with a flyer image (quite a different logo) and removed all the shading patches in the ribbon (replaced all greens by 1 color). It might look better visially after cleaning, but when you vectorize it it it doesn't need to look clean. As a result the vectorized art based on that image is now wrong too.

It would be nice to know the original colors though. Often the colors in pictures are way of. In fact I just bought a galaga kickplate and the colors are so different to what I thought they would be. I took a picture of it and amzingly the colors came out like in all the pictures I saw on ebay. Apparently digital scanners and camara's are really bad at capturing color accurate pictures (at least with respect to the super bright colors used in arcade art).

I agree, this is a difficult part, to get a good color matching when digitaly cleaning/restoring/tracing artwork.

The only way I can see that we could get exact color matches is if a bunch of people with Pantone Match System swatches go out and find the exact PMS numbers for each color on the original arcade cabinets. Most colors will have faded from their original tone though, and I don't know if owners would like to see 'geeks' with Pantone books wandering around their arcades.

It doesn't have to be an exact match, but at least an indication of the colors. A comment if the colors in the picture are reasonably accurate will help already.

Some color problems that are in the pictures are pretty obvious (if you can compare to the original) For instance, pictures of the Galaga art usually show the purple lines (and wing undersides) as almost gray (or a very light purplish haze). In reality this is a very deep and dark (like royal) purple. I'd say it looks most like a Pantone 814 X2 swatch.

If someone knows the colours let me know I'll change them whilst in Photoshop.

There are very few sources of this marquee in the first place of a decent quality, not to mention any sources that arent faded in some way.

It would be nice to get this one done and vectorized.

Anyone know of any Sideart for Bubble Bobble?
