Title: Best video capture program
Post by: Shieldwolf on April 27, 2004, 02:14:36 am
So I'm thinking of starting the daunting project of getting video gameplay files for mame. Now I know some are already done and I had an exstensive list till my computer wiped them. What is the best program for the job. they need to be small short videos.

if there was enough interest,we could members could turn in one   gameplay video to the collection  to get the job done faster.

Older versions of Mame32 (37b14 and earlier) have a built in option to 'Record to AVI' - this is the easiest way to capture video. Once the video's been captured you'll probably need to re-compress the video using TMPgenc or DivX, but I seem to remember the old Mame32 AVI's being pretty small.

You can probably use FRAPS for the capture. Thee free version is probably enough, the full version is like $30.

I am looking for a recorder myself, I would like to get a method down for ultrastyle, but I hope I'm not the only one to end up recording all of the games. The only variation I have from you guys is I want the video looking it's best at 256x256 for texturing purposes. I was wondering, do any of the recorders you've listed also record sound? I think this would make the attract videos worthwhile.
Thanks,
  Chris

All the attractmode videos  for 3darcade are encoded in 256x256.  They are available on irc, efnet, #3darcade. More then 300 are currently done with more being added almost every week especially by Banditt. He also posts them regularly on efnet.

He also regularly posts them to a bittorrent on suprnova.org....  I beleive it's in the misc section.

It's by far the most painless way to aquire them.

how do you use those videos?
Is there a free, XP compatible screen saver that will play those videos randomly?
