Title: New monitor choice Happs vs Hantarex - please advise
Post by: rchadd on April 26, 2004, 08:50:39 pm
Is the Happs Vision Pro 19" CGA  monitor any good?

I see that it is described as "Shelf Mount" does this mean that it can't be used in a cocktail cab?

any other 19" makes/models that i should consider? either from Happ's ranges or any other suppliers (i am in UK).

cheers

i see that Hantarex are advertizing some old stock on their website http://www.hantarex.co.uk/Qty.htm

I was particularly interested in the 21" MTC EQ/3 which has spec details here http://www.hantarex.com/pdf/MTCEQ3.pdf

it does not look like a traditional arcade monitor (but it does have RGB inputs) would it do the same job? i don't see any specs relating to its refresh rate (there is some video bandwidth values listed - is that the same?).

I now have an ArcadeVGA and assume that it could be used with this monitor to give the authentic arcade feel?

I was not too sure if 21" would be too big for a cocktail cab. I was originally looking to get a 19". i see they also have some 17" units als listed - maybe they would be a better option?

do you see anything else listed that would be a better alternative for a cocktail cab.  thanks for your advice - got money burning a hole in my pocket but undecided  ???

cheers

I checked the specs on the Hantarex and they say it sync to PAL and NTSC. If it can display PAL it means it is an extended resolution monitor which is an advantage over the Happs.

Having 288 lines instead of just 240 lines makes the difference when trying to fit a vertical game on a horizontal screen without scaling the image.

I guess it depends on the size of your cocktail, but I think 17inch is too small. (heh)

looks like i'll have to go back the the drawing board and adjust the cab size  ;D

the hantarex is looking like a good buy to me.

just to clarify...

will it work with my ArcadeVGA? - just connect the RGBI wires to corresponding pins on the d9 RGBI analogue connector?

I bought myself a video amp form ultimarc (because i was originally planning to buy a traditional arcade monitor which usually has 5V inputs) - will i need it with the hantarex? i'm not quite sure now but can't understand the specs regards input levels. in fact...do i need the ArcadeVGA at all?

i didn't see anything indicating the monitors refresh rate - is it 15KHz? will the display quality be equivalent to an arcade monitor?

not quite sure what makes it different from their gaming monitors - presume it is because of the video inputs?

thanks

Yes, it will work fine with the AVGA

No, the specs say you can set jumpers to allow you to select 0.7V or 5V (5V = TTL) input signals. Effectively this eliminates the need for an amp.

Besides, even if the D9 terminal can not be switched to 0.7V, the SCART socket accepts 0.7V for sure as that is the standard.

Well, you need an videocard that generated a 15.7kHz (NTSC resolution) or 15.625kHz (PAL resolution). The ArcadeVGA among other videocards can do this.

Yes, the display is comparable to an extended resolution arcade monitor.

Yes, it has additional inputs. Not too bad since it allows you to hook up game consoles, VCRs and DVD-players as well.  8)

ok i'm convinced...its a sale....i will call them today!

just wondering if 21" will look ok for a cocktail?

i assume that it won't fit Kyle's design based on the std pacman cab. will need to tweek the width and length....still that will give me more space to fit more goodies on the control panels  ;D

thanks for the advice...

looks like may have a video amp for sale  :-\
