have i just avoided being ripped off?
a while ago i won a ebay auction for what was described as "ARCADE 2O" MONITOR/PULLED OUT OF WORKING CAB CRISP/NO SCREEN BURN/ALL CONNECTORS READY TO PLUG IN"
here is picture of what i thought i was bidding on...
Ken here advised that it look like a Wells-Gardner 19K4900
-
this is what turned up today.
it looks to me that it is just the tube - there is no circuitry at all.
i refused to accept it and sent it back with the guy who was delivering it on behalf of the seller. lucky i had arranged cash on delivery.
did i do the right thing?
i figured that without the PCBs it would be useless. I didn't want to spend
-
Nice move! You saved yourself from a SCAM! The board is the expensive part, not the CRT!
-
Yup, you did the right thing. That's just a tube.
I'm curious...why is the carpet the same in both pictures? Is the top a monitor you already have, and the bottom the one you got today, took a picture of, and sent back?
-
they are the sellers photos (he had two ads on ebay.co.uk)
i figure the guy who won the other auction must have got MY monitor. just checked and he is pleased with it his feedback on the sale! >:(
oh well...suppose i needed a excuse to consider buying new anyway ;D
-
You just saved yourself some money. The monitor the seller sent you is NOT the same brand or model that you bid on. The seller tried to scam you. I think you did the right thing by sending it back. The only drawback now is that you still don't have a working monitor. :(
-
can't believe it the sellers simply re-listed today and hasn't corrected the photos!
I have sent him email saying that i think he is mis-representing the item. If he doesn't change the photos should i report it to ebay?
-
eBay wont do anything about it, they can't verify.
The 2nd picture is a Hantarex E900 frame. I have a NOS one of those so I recognize it immediately. It is a DANG NICE monitor, at least in new condition, but what he tried to pawn off on you wasn't even worth the cost of shipping.. The frame at most $15-$20 and the tube, if it even works, $10. But the chassis would run you a good $80+ for a working Hantarex one.

just received this response to my email from the seller mameshak - so it was my fault, yeah right!!! :o
suppose he would think that he could advertise a car for sale, then when delivered, it turns out it has no engine!
buyer beware when purchasing anything from mameshak. note that he admits "I got thrown off for selling mame".

Reminds me of a Mcdonalds advert. A bigmac on a poster and a bigmac on your tray.
PS: For a laugh, try and get him to explain just HOW IN THE ***K you hook up a tube without a controller board. ;D
-
yeah maybe he could revolutionize the hobby by showing us all how to hook up a monitor without using a chassis ;D What a *** Censored by saint for language *** ) way to keep your cool--i would have smeared it with dog poop first then sent it back ;D
-
Today I see he has updated the photo's in his new ad. excellent! i was just worried somebody else would get caught.

Good job.
Congratulations, on convincing him to switch the image.
(and congratulations to the guy who won that item the first time and got yours instead)

Hey, those clamps ARE pretty expensive.

Maybe it is a new fangle "wireless" monitor... ;)

As this thread has been written and mentions MAMESHAK it seems silly for me not to reply publicly! As another poster has pointed out this situation was a classic mix up!
To use the word Scam in the same sentence as our company name is slanderous! If you read the post carefully you will see the obvious facts.
Mameshak were selling two different monitors at the same time.
Both were described accurately
The monitors were sent to the wrong buyers, which only became obvious to us much later on
our email reply to the original poster was written assuming the correct product had been delivered - our mistake!
Whilst we inconvenienced the original poster we acquired a very happy customer (the chap who received the much better quality monitor!)
The original poster did not hand over any money as we unfortunately sent the wrong product
We incurred the cost of a driver/van/fuel - we are based in London, I'm sure the original poster was based over a 100 miles away from us, so not the cheapest journey!
As soon as the Original Poster informed us of our mistake we changed our description immediately!
Not meaning to sound rude but does anyone really think we would jeopardise our reputation for the sake of a

Just an observation:
This happened back in April and here it is the middle of November. Granted mix-ups do happen, but it seems to me that it would have been better if you would have told your side of this back then. Did you only just discover this site? ???
-
he has just opened a website www.mameshak.co.uk (trying to sell mame cabs) and probably saw that my posting appears under it in the results list when doing a google search for "mameshak". he didn't think it would be good for business.
BTW if you want a laugh check out his prices :o
surprised there arent actually any pictures on there either.
one item particular caught my eye as an additional option...
Emulator Package x 3 Emulators Megadrive, SNES, Gameboy Advance (GBA)
-
What a load of crap. From the email exchange he was clearly trying to say it was the buyers fault for not reading the listing correctly and infers that it's easy if you know how.
From the snippit in the first post about being ready to go etc. he either sent the wrong monitor as he claims, or it was a scam. If he sent the srong monitor, why the email response above?
Puuuulleeeassssssss.
*adding him to my blocked buyer/seller list on ebay now*
Thanks for the heads up.
-
Hi there, we are sorry that the reason all this has happened has not come across to the people posting on forum.
Again, we apologise for sending the wrong monitor to the wrong buyer, it was a genuine mistake.
-
ok, didn't realize also included price of optipac
so you make a loss on every trackball sold ???
why not use minipac as cheaper alternative to ipac+optipac?
-
Yeah... seems sketchy to me. :-\
NO BUY FROM YOU!
-
Given his explanation, i don't think its all that unreasonable that an honest mistake was made and they replied too hastily to your email before getting all their facts straight. Considering how some outfits respond to negative criticism I'd say mameshak has taken the high ground on their responses by apologizing for the mixup without getting into name calling. In the future I suspect they will more fully communicate whats being offered for sale and make sure the customer gets what they paid for. If not then they will go the way of the dodo--thats the way businesses go. I wouldn't block them because of this incident.
-
Still doesn't explain 199 quid for console emulators. Unless they come programmed on punch cards.
HEY! A COP! :police:
Nice.

I have had many dealings with the company mameshak through E-Bay and now their website and have had the odd hiccup through E-Bay but i can honestly say that the problems were rectified swiftly. I continue to purchase items through mameshak at their website and have purchased and sold my mame cab to my local pub that i purchased through mameshak. Tidy little profit i made on that...lol...i am now touring the pubs in my area and its surroundings selling these machines like there is no tommorrow....keep up the good work mameshak.

Anyone else think it is kind of strange that mamefreakster has 1 post and it was to this thread. It makes me wonder if mameshak got a new sign on just to post this. Either way, the post goes on to say how their using mame for profit. Worst of all they are setting it up in coin-op locations. Personally I don't think mameshak is on the up an up!

Can we please just let this thread die already?
