Title: Trackball Interface options
Post by: oldskoolcade on April 23, 2004, 12:08:52 pm
One more quick one guys...I'm hoping that someone might point me in the best direction to accomplish my trackball needs.  Here's where it stands.   I've got my imperial 3" trackball  from Peale, and it looks like a direct pull from a GT machine (complete with what I'm assuming is a jamma interface)

Any suggestions as to what's the best way to go?   Currently I've got my other controls hooked up with a key wiz pro, so it's either Opti-pac, or a hack of some sort.

I'd love to hear from some of the others who purchased these trackballs from Peale as to how they interfaced it into their cabs.

Thanks guys!
Mike

I originally had my Golden Tee trackball hooked up to a mini-pac and it never felt right.  For $27 including shipping, I got the oscar mouse hack and trackball harness and couldn't be happier now.  I have no experience with the optipac, so I can't comment on that option.

I hooked up my trackball (pulled from a Millipede panel) using a mouse hack.  It seems to work well, though I needed to adjust the sensitivity in a few games.

You could try: http://mamewah.mameworld.net/mousehack.html ...

If you don't want to get your hands dirty I would highly recommend Oscars USB mouse hack for $9 or whatever - cheap, easy and does a perfect job :)

Where did you find the info for the mouse hack?

I *think* I saw something similar here: *LINK BROKEN* http://www.saltspring.com/mamezilla

Thinking about it it is actually pretty straightforward - all it really does is uses the trackballs (or spinner/wheel/whatever) optic sensor instead of the mouse's...
