Title: Trackball and misc controller layout
Post by: adonis_minus_20 on April 22, 2004, 01:37:04 pm
Here is an idea I had for a layout for a 3" High Ball Happs Trackball, Tornado Spinner, Happs Top Fire 8 way Joystick, and 3 buttons.  It's supposed to be 15.5" x 10.5".  Do you think this layout will be playable or too cramped?  Please give feedback, and sorry if the pic is not very good (I had to lose the grid to post it).

Thanks.

Jim

you might consider waiting and finding a 8way flight type stick on ebay (or pay the cash for a happs heavy duty 8way trigger joystick)..

I personally HATE happs top firebutton triggered.

btw... I got mine on ebay in decent condition for 10 bucks I think.   And would take that over a brand new topfire anyday.

also, the topfire isn't all that great for playing normal games...

but the big trick... get some cardboard and create / draw the config layout you think... and pretend they are there... and the games you plan to play with them.

make sure you have some room to give the trackball a slight hit without hitting everything around.  And that your arm isnt laying on another control.

One thing about trackballs is that you need more clearance around them on the RIGHT side, which is totally sucky, since on a standard 2 player panel you will naturally end up with a lot more clearance on the left.

This is of course assuming you use your right hand on the trackball, as almost everyone does.
