Title: How much do you guys trust me?
Post by: Howard_Casto on April 21, 2004, 06:50:18 pm
I would like to implement an error reporting system for dk.  Basically it would email me the error and a LOT of information about your computer (no passwords or credit card numbers, I don't want your money).

Would you guys be willing to run dk if it sent me this info upon an error? It would greatly help me and even possibly increase video card compatability.

I'm not running DK, but I wouldn't mind that if I was.  I think most of us are about "helping" on this forum.  However, I don't know how many people have their cabinets connected to the net.  I know mine isn't.  It should be structured so that it can be turned off or make DK sense if there's an internet connection or not.  You wouldn't want one error to lead to another error.  ;)

Can you make it optional like Microsoft's?

I would have no problem with this feature, although truthfully, I am betting only a tiny percentage of Dragon King installations would actually be on web connected computers.

It doesn't bother me.

I do look forward to the future threads where someone forgets to RTFM and comes complaining when his firewall lit up as he ran DK and his privacy was violated.  Should be good times coming. ;)

Key Word: OPTIONAL!!!!!

And FULL DISCLOSURE in HUGE LETTERING on whichever dialog allows you to agree/disagree to send error reports.

Do that, and I'll install it on PRINCIPLE.

uhm... only if you can setup an auto reply on your email app..

1)
I'm sorry, I am currently not supporting versions over 10 versions old.  Please update your software and try again.

2)
I'm sorry, this email address is not supporting this software... considering I wrote it 10 years ago, have children, don't have time to play games anymore, so PLEASE STOP EMAILING ME!

3)
I'm sorry, the bug is sent because your video card is..well..how do I say it nice... nevermind, just remembered who I am... You COMPUTER SUCKS!  UPDATE IT PAST A 486... 95/98/me WITHOUT SE IS NOT A STABLE OS... 64MB RAM ISN'T ENOUGH...

4)
I'm sorry, but it seems that you missed the spot in the documentation that states READ THE FU!@#@! MANUAL!  It seems as though you didn't even START configuring your application.  Not a single configuration file has changed.

I'm sure you can add to the list.

Howard,
Don't know if this would help, but what if you had the option of sending it to a network or saving the information to a file for those without net access.  Anybody who needs your help or is just wants to help you can save the file and send it from another computer.

Sorry man, If I replied to every stupid person who tried my fe and didn't take the time to follow through I might get ticketed by the new anti-spam laws. ;)

Optional and Id use it.  However, what I really mean is that if I had problems, Id use it to try to get help solving them.

You do understand that this is one step closer to providing full on support from you directly.

To be honest, Id rather see a community set up for peer support for DK.  It would be nice to have a small DK community forum for troubleshooting since this is the only outlet for DK currently...and it dosen't seem like there are many people here that use it.

The one nice thing about having an auto-reply setup (or if you have access to a webserver with JSP support, don't email, but send a request with the info.)..

Why?  because you could reply to the answers to the questions you sent out to others...  Fix the problem once, and then all who get it from that point on will get an auto reply with the last reply (with a note to email directly if it didn't work)

You'd be suprised.... I used to track the downloads.  Quite a few people have downloaded it and download it regularly.  The main difference between my fe and others is it's semi-easy to understand and very stable (most are one or the other).  There aren't a lot of questions regarding it because it works so well.  At least that's the hope.  :)

Not at all.

Ever heard the expression don't poke the bear?  If you aren't going to be constructie with your comments then kindly keep them to yourself.

To everyone else, thank you very much for your feedback... I'll take all of your concerns and suggestions under advisement.  it probably won't make it into this build, but expect to see some sort of error report soon.
