Well I've run into a few problems with my gameport sidewinder hack. For starters, it worked under win2k pro, now it just goes from unknown to OK over and over again. So checking the buttons is pointless. I can't seem to find any drivers that work with win2k either. I know it's autodetected, but now it's always detected as a SideWinder Pro 3D which I believe is not correct. It has power, (led lights up) and I have also tried pressed the mode botton on and off..
And I can't get it working under Linux either. jstest seems to non-existant no matter what I try. I thought perhaps if I loaded xmame and tried a few of the button in there I might be able to see what's working and what's not.. No such luck. modprope hell is upon me.
Anyway, does anyone know if the USB sidewinder gamepad versions are hackable? I'm about to go out and get one or two and see, but I don't want to spend the money if there not.
This has turned into a quest. I refust to stop untill I get this freaken thing complete and out of my hair. It was fun, but now it's just getting annoying.

Just found this also:

10 independent buttons and thumb-controlled directional pad
Plug and play with the latest USB technology
At first glance it looks like the triggers on top would be rapid fire buttons, but looks
like their not. I only need 9 buttons, so this would be perfect. Still don't know if USB
pads are hackable tough. I don't see why not..

USB sidewinder is the single most difficlut to hack gamepad around. There is nothing to solder on, no holes, the solder won't stick to the D-Pads, etc. I have hacked a dozen different pads easily, but I couldn't get one input out of a USB sidewinder.

Good thing I couldnt find any. Everywhere I went they where sold out. I went with that other usb gamepad for $14.99 (from the link above). It's ok I guess. I am having some problems though, and since you are the expert :)
I soldered the ground wire easily, and when I touch it to any of the directional controls and others it works. But I cannot for the life of me get it to work with a microswitch. When I touch the wire from the microswitch to the button it activates right off even before I press the microswitch button. I tried on on both NC and NO. Do I need to have two wires to each botton or what?
They look kinda like this: (I'm sure you know already)
[=]
Each button has two seperate parts, only one works to siginal a button press and the other section does nothing. So bottom section to microswitch and top to ground?
