I'm sure this a common question but I've searched everywhere and can't find the answer.
What do you use to mount you marquee?
I know Happs sells a marquee mount but I am not ordering anything else from them and I assume their is some product I can find at Home depot or the like that will also work acceptably.

Some people route the top and bottom wood and slide it in the slot. Some get a mirror retainer (like what holds your bathroom mirror) and use that. Some just get a metal piece and bend it longwise. It all depends.

actally the happs stuff works well. ive used angle iron but it looks chooch compared the the happs retainer.

I just picked out some nice wood molding from Home Depot and made a frame around the marquee.
I then cut a narrow slot in the top panel on the machine so I could insert/remove it from the top without having to take the molding frame off.

I actually way over ordered on my last Happs order. If you are local to me, I could part with some.

Thanks so much for the offer but I am in Canada. Airfare might be even more than shipping ;D
On a related note, have any cabinets used a non-lit marquee? This is going to be a very compact tabletop for my kids and I am not sure I want them to worry about turning the marquee on and off (and it might be a little too fun to do that if anyone with young kids knows what I mean...)
I am hesitant to leave out the backlight without seeing some examples of cabs built that way.

Sprint One, many ATW cabinets, and some other machines used unlit marquees.

Home Depot sells metal corner pieces for a little over $2.00 . They are about 10 feet long and are colored white. I cut the pieces to size with a dremel, drilled the screw holes and painted them with black hammered spray paint I had left over from repainting a coin door.
They work and look great.
I'm at work so can't post any pics ATM but I can post some later if you want.

Hmmmmm.....
I may try using the aluminum trim to hold in my marquee, and then install t-molding over top of it.
If you were to cut off the molding "spine", then I'm sure that hot glue would hold it in place.

Nothing beats a HAPP marquee retainer, and it's only $20 shipped.

If you order this item from Happ's website it will cost $12.05 + $30.00 shipping as they use UPS by default. However, if you call Happ at 888-BUY-HAPP (289-4277) and order it with USPS shipping it will only cost $20 total ! It is part # 49-1000-00 "Retainer for video game marquee"
I don't think there will ever be a superior homemade alternative

I stopped by the local hardware store last week and picked up a 6 foot piece of right angle aluminum for about $6. The piece I bought is 1/2" x1/16"wide on each side. They also sell bigger widths. It looks very much like the original retainers found on many games. The aluminum is very easy to cut and probably easy to paint.

That's exactly what I use in the 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/16" size. You are correct, when painted black it looks nearly identical to what is found on many older games. Check out this thread: http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=19166.
