While I know that computer speakers are magnetically shielded, how about subs?
I plan on using a sub in my cab, but don't want to fry a hard drive.
As an option, I'm thinking that a piece of MDF inserted between my mini-tower and my sub might do the trick.
Thoughts..............?

The magnatism is not the only thing that will mess a hard drive up, get a sub going pretty loud within a foot of a hard drive operating and you will fry the bearings quicker than the magnatism will destroy the data.
The noise Vibration might be worse than the magnatism.

I'm planning to isolate the mini-tower using some sort of vibration dampener. (foam or springs)

Get some sheet metal to attach to that mdf that you are laying in there. That will help ensure no magentic forces can get to your HD

Really? Sheet metal?
How about rubber or another non-magnetizable material ?
-
Rubber doesn't stop a magnetic field.
I'd guess a subwoofer is shielded too. Unless you can see the woofers themselves. If you want to be sure you should test for magnetic fields (or maybe it's in the manual)
Besides, the HD is embedded in a metal box. That will protect the HD from any magnetic field outside.

Invest in some chicken wire, that is better than solid metal.

if you're using one of those computer speaker system, even with a woofer... I doubt they're strong enough to ruin a HD...
(even if you put them next to each other...)
unless you're putting like a 10+ in woofer right next to it...
even then... if you put the computer (with case...)
then it should still be ok...
but like previously said... if you have a EXTRA BIG woofer in there... and you like to turn it up and BOMB the whole place... The strong booming might actually shake the machine...
you'll need to have a speaker hole and might want to put some sound absorber around your computer....
