I haven't seen anyone post on here about swapping the act labs gun innards into an arcade gun. I have just started the swap and should have it done in a couple of days. I will post pics and results when I'm done if the board thinks it will be useful

Of course. :)

Yes, please :)

Where can I buy just the case ???
I wanted cases for my dremcast guns but never found any.Guess I will wait for your act labs case hack.

I usually just goto the corner store...they got good deals on PABST, HAMM's and OLY!
Screw the six packs, I want the case!
;D

It's been mentioned many times before but....
You can order individual parts of almost anything Happ makes by going to the cart and entering the part numbers shown in the exploded views of any controller. You could easily pick out the numbers for just the case, the screws that hold it together, the trigger and the microswitch and you're in business.

Happ actually offers the gun cases alone right in their catalog...

Hey man can't wait till you post a FAQ. I have been searchign for one on this exact topic for a while. The acts gun is nice and all, but ugly as hell.

Superdave,
You're probably aware of this, but in case you aren't, you need to pay particular attention to the focal length and alignment of the optics when transfering this to the new case. They need be exactly as they are in the old Act-Labs case or this isn't going to work for you. Also it's quite possible that this is going to decrease the acuracy of the gun as getting these those thing exactly right will be difficult, but I guess that's the trade off.
Good Luck with the transfer! A lot of us are interested in knowing how it goes for you. Hope it works well.

I am hoping that this will bump up the post to the top of the list. I just finished the hack of my Act-Labs gun into a happs gun case and hydraulic hose cord. ( arcade style w/ arcade mount. At least that is what we use) And it works just fine. Actually more accurate because I took the time to align the eye. The 2nd mouse button is on the rt side of the gun just above the handle. inside it was like the gun was made for this! I just had to dremel a hole for the button cover. The calibration switch is in the bottom of the barrel. I had to make a mount for this switch and hot glue it in. All of the wires to the switches and the eye had to be cut and lengthened. Regarding the distance of the eye, I found that it did not make a difference. Mine is way closer to the optic glass than it was in the act lab case but there is nothing but room to move it around. I will post pics as soon as I can get ahold of a digital camera. This makes gun games a whole lot more fun cause it has "the" feel unlike the act labs case. If anyone has any q's , LMK

Glad to know it went so well. :D
I've been planning to do this for a couple of months and I actually just recieved my parts in the mail today. Sucks to be second :(, but at least I know it works ;D.
Would you mind if I PM you if I run into any snags?

bump?

Wow. I remember this thread. How the hell did something like this die!?!?!

yeah crappy I must have been sleeping that day--I would to see some pics of the inside of that hack! I see his last post was in august--slim hope he still pokes around... :-[

I was just thinking about alternative shells for the Act Labs gun. It gets talked about a lot, but it seems like very few have actually done it. Are there any example sites out there? Anyone have suggestions of other gun shells, possibly from console light guns, that would be good to use?
-
I started considering doing it... But with the crazy prices I'm not thinking of packing mine up and throwing it on ebay..
of course... If I hacked it well.. the price would probably go MUCH higher... I don't know.
I wasn't going to use a happs but the guns used by a few others (looks more real). I don't remember which games but they aren't blue or red. The other trouble is getting all the electronics into the gun itself. you will probably have to cut off all the extra posts ect used to hold the originals.
I was also interested in trying to use the original optics from the arcade gun. Then use the focal length of the original. I figured that the original gun had better optics then the act labs does (no figuring there... pretty obvious) but I didn't know if the act labs could handle it. But I figured it was worth a try.
So if I don't get mine up on ebay in a few weeks... I might take another stab at it... (ok, take the initial stab... just looked at everything didn't really touch anything yet)

I never caught this thread when it was originally posted, but I was also going to attempt this. I have a cheapie airsoft gun that is an exact clone of a Beretta 92. It even has a weight in the handle to make it feel real. Just one of those projects I never got around to.
I'd also love to see pics if anyone has hacked one.

Anyone e-mailed superdave? I will if no one else has but no sense in swamping the poor guy.

I'd be hesitant to do it until someone else posted pics, because the design of an airsoft gun is actually pretty different from a lightgun, for a lot of reasons. The most obvious point being that lightguns require a very large opening at the barrel tip for the lense. Not that it'd be difficult for you or anyone else on the boards, just me ;). Time to finally get a dremel tool, I guess.

someone should put it in the old Nintendo guns...those were SWEET.
all futuristic and stuff....remember in duck hunt....the point of the game was to hit the ducks on the TV to death with the gun....it's amazing I never broke the TV. but everyone has those guns sitting around, right?

I dunno man, ;D
If I have a choice between a zapper, and the Tomb Raider gun, I think I'll go with the TR gun...
(ALL was/is a great band, btw.)

Pfft... You can't acurately choose with those pictures. Everyone knows the orange Zapper is infinately better than the grey Zapper.
