Not my auction... and I already have a monitor for my cabinet...but at these prices... I might have to get another
Also note... there are 5 or so auctions for each item!
KDS 21" monitor (Amazing for a real pc also :)

Wells gardener 18" monitor used

Wells gardener 18" monitor new in box!

Great price - only don't forget that these are not comparable with the WellsGardner U3100. The ones he sell are XGA-monitors which are great if you want to play PC-games/Internet... too on your cab. I'd expect as much blockiness as on a normal PC-monitor, but a much easier mounting 'cause of the openframe-style! :)
-
oooh... even though there are a couple of these being offered (each) now that you've posted it here, what are the odds that these are gonna get pushed up to a less tantalizing price? =)
Carsten Carlos is right though... these are more computer monitors in a much more arcade cabinet/industrial housing/frame... If the prices stay low I'm gonna bid on one (or two) as 1 of these would be perfect for what I want to do with my cab project. I'll have to run it by my CFO, and hope the ebay gods are with me =)

what's with 18"? So, i wonder if it will mount right into my cab that has a 19" arcace monitor in it?
Any clues?
thanks!
-
Trouble seems that neither were designed for use in an arcade machine. So the 18" might not fit any bezel you could find.
I was considering it for a cocktail table... figuring I could use some black poster board under the glass... and nobody would know the difference... but now I decided to wait (didn't want a SVGA monitor... was hoping it was one of the arcade ones)
-
Go with the used monitor they are offering (hopefully the packing will be better). I bought the factory sealed wells-gardner from this ebay seller and the factory packing was terrible. There was absolutely no styrofoam or any packing protection for the rear of the monitor. The tube on the yoke was shattered and the back plate was hanging loosely. (All it's good for is parts) It arrived in a sealed 19" monitor box, which puzzled me. They told me at midwest digital that wells gardner ran out of 18" monitor boxes when they produced these.
Again, get the used since they will do the packing for you.
They are 18" d-9200's. They can fit in a 19" space and my atari bezel does fit it (almost). Unfortunately, I could not power it up, but they are XGA.

Re 21" KDS
I did some digging and one person said that they have it working at 1600x1200 without problems.
Another person said that they can't get it to work on their PC no matter what... I'm still digging to find out what res's and refresh rates he tried.
But it is clear: All this monitor is good for is MAME use. You will NOT be able to use it (the 21" KDS or the 18" WG) in any authentic game machine as they're PC refreshes (30 KHz and above) not 15.75.
However I'm hoping this CAN be used all all the strange rates/sizes for MAME use from a standard PC card, and gain me an extra 2" of screen space over my P.O.S.-19" "CTL" monitor that has seen 20 hours of use and died once already while I'm waiting to build my cabinet.
The KDS has 19.9" visible, vs 17.9 for most 19" PC tubes. That means a veritical game in a horizontal display will fill a diagonal of about 15" vs 13.5" on a 19". [Good if you're a classic vertical game fan but don't want to mount it upright]
-
does anyone think they could mount one of these monitors (the 18" wells gardners) vertically. I'd be interested in making a verticle mame cabinet with one.

from what I can tell, the 18" is a d-9100...as seen on Wells Garner's site:http://www.wellsgardner.com/wellsgardner31/finditem.cfm?itemid=612
These babies go for $370! This guy selling em for $15-25 (plus shipping) is wow!
I have acab with a 19" arcade monitor, but want to run an svga @ 800x600. So I hope i can mount this 18" right in place of the 19" monitor. an thoughts?
TIA!
-
I bought 2 of the18" monitors
from them last week an I
recieved my order in 3 days
Monitors $25 x 2
shipping $30 x 2
$110 for 2 18" monitors
not to bad
BTW: here is someone who
has used this in a cabinet and
says the a 19" bezel will fit OK

Man...all this exposure and i lost my bid! they all sold! ARG!!!!!
Well, they still have some 21" KDS available....who knows what those are good for.
-
-
hey Rod1968... so does midwest sell a "batch" of these each week, then? (in your experience, I realize you are'nt their spokesperson) =P
Maybe those BYOAC folks who were outbidded can try next time for the 18" wells gardner industrial mount PC/XGA monitors
IF we knew that we could not panic and bid up the prices against ourselves.... just a thought...

I bid on one about three weeks ago and didn't win it, then I saw them again so i bid on two hoping I would win one and I won them both go figure. the auction that ended yesterday was the third time I saw them listed.
the ones I won were not listed in arcade Items they were
listed in Monitors 17" other so you might want to keep an
eye out there too

so one of these suckers would be able to play regular computer games too? I mean...then it owuld be liek getting a regular computer mointor for 25$....for some reason that doesn't make sense to me.
-
Please no one bid up the $25 ones today! There WILL be another batch, there has been for the last 3 weeks. No sense making each of us pay more.
I have a bid in on ONE monitor. (I see someone else has a bid on 2 monitors)
Please dont take it away from me... I'll report to the group what they can do and how good they are so others can take advantage next week.
-
only had a simple question...do these monitors have scanlines just like any other vga arcade monitor..great deal here..i will be bidding next week..make another small little cabinet.cocktail maybe..please post..
-
No, they do NOT have scan lines. They're PC monitors at PC refreshes.. It just doesn't have a nice "consumer" plastic shell. They're meant for mounting in metal (or wood) racks for access in industrial locations or within kiosks.
DANGIT.. Someone went in and bid $50 on EVERY one.. No way these will go for less than $50 anymore.
And to think I let them "go" the last 2 weeks with many not getting bids at even $25.
GRRRRRRR.
Well, there goes my idea of increasing my soon to be built MAME cabinet from a 19" to 21" monitor.
Oh well.
-
Midwest digital has listed a bunch more !!
If Your Plan to bid it might be a good Idea
to report back here with your Ebay Screen
name so hopfully nobody from the MAME
community will out bid you
Good luck ;D

I bid on one 21" monitor out of this new lot.. I ONLY want one... i will not buy 100 of them!
Please let me get one for $25! ! !
-
let's all play nice now.....i'm just posting to let you guys know i bid on one too....my ebay name is rockbottom something something. Has anyone tried contacting the company to see if you can buy these directly from them?
-
>I happen to Want ALL the monitors, although I am setting up a deal >on the side of ebay with the seller rather than upset the BYOAC >comminity or something ...
As I was the first to B*tch about the auction... I'd like to say that I think it's admirable of Madsmurf to use his buying power directly with the seller. Although that'll mean less monitors available over all, at least it lowers the competition bar somewhat on the open auctions so that more people will have a fair shot at getting these monitors for their MAME machines at an affordable price (save for the shipping of a 90lb monitor) ...
I bet the people who use "real" arcade monitors in their cabinets are wondering what all the fuss is about in this thread =P

-
ya...can you post any details about your setting up of a deal directly through the company? I'd find it very helpful. Thanks bro.
-
yea...cool. I emailed them and i'll post whatever reply they send me for future reference. If this works out nicely in my cab i'll want some more for future projects and I don't think waiting on them to post on eBay is the best way for me to get them when i need them.
-
I called and spoke to midwest digital regarding these monitors, they are used removed from Kiosks and have no burn in or tough screens. They have had problems with shipping damage (He said about 20%) so be sure to have insurance.
-
GRRRR... Of course I ended up paying the most!
The worst part is that 2 people who won two other ones cheaper also bid the one I won up in the last seconds!
Oh well, hope everyone is happy with theirs.. I'm sure this will be the LAST lot appearing if that other person bought em out, or if not, the last lot appearing at these prices!
-
I was surprised to return from a camping trip to find I had won one of the KDS 21" for $36+$50 S&H. Sure hope this thing works well in a MAME Cab. :-\
-
Appreciate that everyone has feelings on the issue, but please keep it calm and cool and away from flaming and finger pointing.
Thanks!

I posted this because I thought people here could use these. I didn't even end up bidding on them (my wife made me feel guilty about spending money on something I didn't have an immediate use for).
Anyway, I like to post good deals.
But remember ITS AN AUCTION! items rarely go for what the initial bid is.
but I feel like I should still post great deals when I see them.
-
I think it was appropriate for you to post deals relevant to MAME cabinet making, and please continue to do so... but you're right about the auction thing, though...
I had initially over reacted - but sorted it out with madsmurf later...
I did bid on one of the 21" KDS ones, and won... a wee bit more than I wanted to pay... but it still seems worth it... It just arrived today... sucker is HUGE... should be lotsa fun mountting it in my cabaret cabinet...
I plugged it in and it worked right away at 1028 x 700 (or whatever... the next common size up from 800x600 - you know what I mean...) Haven't mamed on it yet.. need to get back to work =P More info semi-soon...

And let the "reselling" begin....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2129347943
(No, this is NOT my auction nor am I recommending or dis-recommending it.. Just stumbled upon it, and saw that the seller used virtually the same text as Midwest did just without the flashy tables. Browsing his feedback he did buy one from them.
