Here's my setup. I have 1 computer powering 2 cabinets. One cabinet is for Horizontal games and the other for vertical ones. I have a data switch to switch between the two monitors and a sound switch for the 2 cabinet sounds. I have keyboard hacks on both of these setups and am wanting to get a Encoder like the KeyWhiz for use on both machines. Can I get a Keyboard Y Adapter to use with one encoder? Will this work as long as I'm still using one machine at a time?

Didn't quite follow all that, but if you just want two keyboards (or one keyboard and an encoder) to one PC, this should help:

can't you just wire up the controls in parallel? like hook up player 1 button one on both panels to the same input on the ipac, etc.
It should work. It's kinda like adding a 4 way to your panel but still having a player 1 8 way.
It shouln't matter too much, unless someone walks up to your other machine and messes with the controls while your playing the other.
Since vertical games usually require less processing power it seems just as easy to me to score an old computer and just have each cab have their own computer....I would just go get another cheap (or preferably free) computer.

Just like what NY_in_Tx says and to avoid the other people screwing up your controls while playing from the other end, just have a switch for the GROUND to switch between the the two cabinet so the other controls will not function, at least I think so (I know IPac will work this way) but have not seen or work w/a Keywhiz. I'm assuming that Keywhiz have a common ground.

Here is a better solution.
Buy a computer for the second cabinet.
My goodness, you can get a used computer that can run ALL the vertical Mame roms for cheaper than the cost of the assorted keyboard video and mouse switches/cables. 600 mhz is the magic number for vertical games.

I disagree with the 600 mhz....I'm running a 750 mhz and a few of my games run choppy, but on my Duron 1000 mhz they run fine.

Sounds to me like you already have two computers :)
I think Paige is talking about only old school vertical games (I run them all fine on a 233). Get a slower one to run the classics (mosty vertical) and use your faster computer to run the newer games (mostly horizontal)
the one computer split among 2 cabs is just not worth the trouble when a cheap computer can net you 2 fully working mame cabs. I would just bug me to have a whole game sitting there unable to be used because someone is playing pacman. Kinda like that little space on the dash of a new car that just keeps telling you "you were to cheap to get the option that goes here" (man I gotta get back to therapy)
good luck whatever direction you decide
