My mame cabinets monitor has horizontal grey lines spaced about an inch apart all the way down the screen. They're on a slight angle and don't quite go to the edges of the screen. It's only visible when the screen is dark so it isn't a problem most of the time.

I have tried adjusting all the pots on the monitor except for V. Freq. which i'm not too keen to mess with. Or is it just that I need to install new caps which i'm not too keen to do either!
Thanks.

This may be a grounding issue. Check that your monitor and PC are grounded properly and that the cables you are using are properly shielded so they won't pick up interference.
On the other hand, it might be something else. Can't hurt to check the above though.

I get the same thing if I have the brightness up too high. I'm talking about the brightness adjustment which usually sits wih the focus knob, NOT the one on the PCB (if yours has one there).
It's usually not too hard to miss. If you want, I can get you a photo of that bit on my monitor, may be similar.

Those are called "retrace lines" and are visible usually when the "SCREEN" control on the flyback is turned up a bit too high.

That's what it's called? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies I got it displaying a perfect picture now with no lines.
I simply adjusted the "screen" control and the lines vanished.
"Screen" appears to adjust the brightness, although I have another pot labelled brightness. I also have a pot that isn't labelled but seems to adjust the colour or contrast or something.

The SCREEN control is the coarse brightness control. It sets the range of the regular brightness control.
