I've been trying my best to keep up with updates including screenshots; titles etc. But with all of the games that don't work when you update, play slow, no sound etc. etc. I find it's "tiring" to keep up.
Considering I literally have thousands of games (more than I could every hope to play) I sometimes feel that "I'm done". But I still keep coming back for the occassional update....it's a true sickness. If it's out there I want it!
How about you?

A bit more often than every "u" release. ;D
-
I've only used 2 versions of MAME.
I orginally downloaded the .36 set (might be wrong version #). Then before I built my cab I updated to .66. So far, I have seen no compelling reason to update past .66.
-
....interesting you should have stopped at ver. 66. I was also holding at 66 for a long time...but couldn't help myself and I jumped to 76.
I think I'm concurrently running both 68 and 79 at present (I like the way certain games play in older versions personally).

Whenever TheGatesofBill has a new release. :)
-
Every release, including the 'U' releases. But that's because I'm a burner.
-
Ditto, pretty much every release, but that's because I'm a developer and I have to assure that mame is still compatable with my applications.
Also it helps to check the controls.dat entries if you actually have the game handy to verify inputs. ;)

Started with 67 upgraded to 79 downgraded to 67 quickly there after...I guess "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
I just don't think the additions/improvements are worth the hassle (and slowdown). Besides, if you include my Genesis , NES, SNES, and TG16 emulators, I have more games than I could play in three lifetimes (granted there not all worth playing). Besides again, I'm too busy building more cabs.
I do appreciate people like Howard and Peal who make it possible for me to not worry about upgrading...If it weren't for developers and burners this would all be impossible. ;)

I buried my head in the sand for a long time back in the days of 0.35 or so, and when I looked up MAME was at 0.72 and I had to download everything all over again. As that was a huge jump in set size and took a long time to download from usenet, I decided to keep up with every version increment... but since the "u" releases have gotten crazy lately, I only update my ROMs/snaps/marquees every major release. Too much hassle to keep up with "u" updates every couple days!
I'm using NoNameMAME so whenever there's a new release there I update my exe files & run CHDMAN to update my CHD files.
-
for now I've decided to stay at .74.... I got sick of updating. Plus my main source I get roms from has stopped updating after this version. :P
-
...you know its interesting that over 40% have voted that they update constantly.
I find it exhausting!.....
I've found that lately I've been cheating on my Mame and trying out Visual GBA. It's really fun.
But I still played a round of Metal Slug 4 on my cab last night. There's absolutely noting like a cab!

For the same reason as Howard I like to keep my stuff updated (although I don't bother with images, I make my own 'titles' and that's it).
That said I can't remember the last time I had a full romset, perhaps 0.75...
