Title: Painting over wood Laminate / Veneer

Hey All,

It looks like the veneer laminate is on there good... too good to pry/work off.  Has anyone killz/primed and painted over laminate/veneer surfaces?  Any tips/suggestions welcome.  Has anyone laminated over laminate? *shudder*

If it didn't seem so permanently affixed to the wood, I'd work it off... but I think I'd do more damage then good by attempting a strip down...

There is filler made specifically for laminate.  The brand I'm using is called SeamFil.  Got it at the lumberyard where I bought my black melamine.  It comes in a variety of colors to match laminates.  For flat colors, it would probably be hard to detect once you blend/sand it with fine grit, but for woodgrain and other patterns, it's going to show.  You might just use the stuff to fill the gaps, then paint over the whole thing.  Can't recommend any specific brand of paint since that's not part of my project, but I've heard plain old Krylon is good.  That's what I would do--I hate woodgrain on cabinets!  :P

Thanks 1up, I'll look into that...

I'm still weighing my options... anyone have an approach to removing to really stuck on laminate (yes I'll search the archives)... In the rec.arcade.collectible.whatever usenet group googled archives I've seen recommendations on using a heat gun (but no information on the process) and using brute force with a scraper... *shrug*

I, of course am looking for the path of least resistance that'll have the best results possible =P  hence my request for tips, the communities experience in painting over or removing laminate/veneer.
