These are the almost definite desings for what I've call Arcade
Desktop Project. It will be my retro-gaming area, with a computer
exclusively devoted to run MAME with an ArcadeVGA and a SCART TV, plus
a couple or home-built Arcade CPs, and a Dreamcast. The TV is a 21"
screen and I will rotate it manually. The computer will possibly be an
Athlon XP 3200 with 512mbs and windows 2000. The hi-fi is a Sanyo and
outputs 250w though Technics speakers. What I'm not very sure is about
the positioning of the speakers. On the table they take too much
space. I don't like the idea of placing the hi-fi and the computer on
the floor. I wish I could lower the speakers a little. Do you think
above the ear level, as they are placed, is a good position? The table
is only 60cm tall, so it will be very confortable for playing. I will
use low chairs without wheels. I've made the table wide enough to
place everything including a mini-keyboard, and possibly a mouse or a
trackball. There's more than enough room for two players. As you can
see I've placed the tv inclined below the level of the surface of the
table (there will be a squared hole and an angled base that holds the
tv. I've made this big enough in case I decide to install a bigger
screen in the future. In conclusion, this is my view of a perfect desk
for gaming. It's not a cabinet but for me it's much more practical and
confortable.

from what I see.. you can definitely put some of the things under the desk.... (maybe on a board with wheels...)
like the pc... and parts of the hi-fi equip....
that will make the desk less crowded...

I've got some similar designs I've sketched out, except that mine have the CP recessed so that the front is flush with the desk.
My plan is that, when not in use, the CP recess would be covered by a flat drop-in piece, creating a "normal" desktop.
I also have a design for a non-arcade computer desk, where the computer is actually IN the desk with a piece of tempered glass covering it, so it can be seen from through the desk.
Unfortunately, my woodshop (garage) is currently full of my wife's JUNK, so I can't build anything that large or intensive at the moment.
