Title: Removing paint over sideart
Post by: Lilwolf on July 18, 2002, 08:27:22 am
I'm not possitive, but I believe there is original sideart under my paintjob on my cabinet.

is there any way to remove black paint over a sideart sticker and bring the sticker to good condition?

damn board still logs me out whenever I click on a link!

lilwolf:

miniral spirits should not harm the vinyl sideart but should remove the paint.
(test first of course!)
I have an operation wolf cab that was converted to steel gunners2, then painted black.
I wanted to strip the whole thing down to wood so I tried mineral spirits first and it took off the paint, but nothing would remove that sideart.

I ended up having to use whole lot of acetone (only passed out twice!)

I used 3M Safest Stripper on my crystal castles, which was totally painted by a thick coat of black paint. I applied it on small sections at a time and let it rest for about 10 min. Then scrubbed the paint off. Scrubbing was the hardest part, since you do it with a plastic  spatula and plastic fiber scrubber in order to preserve the side art. I ended up with a slightly dull sideart, but absolutely clean.
