Title: Paige bought a camera, Star Wars cockpit pics here!
Post by: paigeoliver on April 04, 2004, 11:00:40 pm
You all missed the heck out at the St. Louis auction. Best auction ever, 4 complete rows of machines. Some fully working decent 19" machines went for $50, and some fully working 25" machines went for $125. There were 4 complete rows of machines, and hardly any junk (no "dead row" at all).

I brought my Space Firebird mini mame to sell. My buddy and I snuck my mini into the first row while they were selling the slot machines. It went for $400, which was fine by me.

I bought a complete Atari Basketball with perfect bezel, interior bezel artwork, rusty control panel, 2 4" trackballs, a working 23" B&W monitor, manual, and clean boardset inside. The game does not work, but I only paid $5, and there were $6.25 in quarters inside.

I got a very dirty, but complete (and actually in pretty nice condition under the dirt), Stunt Cycle for free. It also has a working monitor, but has not otherwise been troubleshooted.

I bought a nice, fully working Road Blasters upright in the dedicated Atari System One cabinet with perfect control panel and perfect yoke. Price was $150

BUT HERE IS THE SCORE RIGHT HERE!

Parked across the street from the auction was a sort of rednecky type guy towing a trailer, on that trailer were 3 redemption games, and a Star Wars cockpit. To make a long story short, I bought a complete Star Wars cockpit for $150 and it looks like the only thing that appears to be wrong with it is a blown up resistor on the AR II board. (Had a vector expert buddy with me who checked it out for me).

awesome score paige, I'm jealous.  I can't wait till I'm out on college with a (hopefully) steady income. I've heard there are some pretty good auctions in NJ, so hopefully I'll luck out one with a score like that one day too.

BTW, where was this, just out of curiosity?

BTW, where was this, just out of curiosity?

It was in Belleville, IL. Nearest major city is St. Louis, which is why it is called the St. Louis auction.

Some other nice buys I saw.

Multi-Pac $500
Capcom Bowling in beautiful Gottlieb cabinet covered with PERFECT "Bowling lane" style laminate. $125
Fully working Bombjack in decent shape $50.
Baby Pac (complete minus playfield glass) $50 (belonged to a friend of mine, and he was mad about it).
Gyruss $125
Time Pilot $100
Monaco GP mini playing blind, $50

Weird stuff I saw.
Cherry Master in dedicated Domino Man cabinet with all artwork (didn't catch price).
Cherry Master in Kangaroo (painted over).
Some stupid conversion in a color sideart Tapper with full artwork in good shape.
Atari Football converted to Capcom Bowling (with an upright kit, rather than the cocktail kit).

People paying too much.

$450 Donkey Kong 3 (belonged to a friend of mine, who wasn't there to see it sell, and could not believe the price).
$800 Some sort of DEAD Cherry Master in a new cabinet (was the last vid of any type sold).
$185 (each). There were a pair of brand new (but empty) countertop cabinets that sold for $185 each. Crazy stupid.
$400+ the first of 5 Road Blasters went over $400, none of the other ones topped $175.
$1300 Ms Pac with all repro artwork. Was only "too much" because you could have bought the $500 multipac, AND all the repro artwork, and still has a couple hundred left over.

I'd be real interested in seeing pics of that Basketball game.  Never seen one in person.  Big fan of the big trak games.

Well, mine looks like updog at the moment. I am going to have to scan the remains of the control panel artwork, and then fabricate a new overlay for it in photoshop.

I also need to clean the whole machine. Repaint the coin door and other metal. Replace the rollers on the trackballs. Fix (or get fixed) the boardset. Do minor wood work at the bottom, and then it should be good as new.

Sooo sad. Did the Baby Pac work? ....

Wait, don't tell me. I'm better off not knowing.

Woulda restored that Tapper too. How much did it go for.

My appt. would have been a little fuller after that auction.

Baby Pac was dead, dead, dead.

Pretty sure both the color Tapper and the Domino Man conversions went over $200 each. Flawless artwork on both of them.

I did get one of those, although mine has the more common 19" replacement monitor instead of the (unreliable) original 25" unit.

No auction pics, they have started kicking people out for taking pictures inside the auction.

I will of course EVENTUALLY post pictures of my own finds.

It was sad looking at the rootbeer tapper and dominoe man cabs buthcered like that.  I love my Gyruss I got there for $125.  left channell isnt working but music and sound effects are all there on right ch. Paigeoliver, did anyone tell you there was a Sprint2 there? (not working of course)
Title: Re:St. Louis auction scores (Star Wars cockpit).
Post by: paigeoliver on April 06, 2004, 07:01:02 am
I saw it, I was standing right there while it sold. It was one of several games that I had to talk myself out of buying (Sprint 2, Atari Football, and Le Mans). Mine is nicer, and closer to working than that one was, so there was no legitimate reason to buy it. Had we been towing a trailer though, well, had we been towing a trailer I likely would have brought home all three of those, and that nice Capcom Bowling as well.

Dear lord that is a cool cabinet!

Isn't it much more fun to be able to SHOW people all the cool stuff you have rather than posting lists all the time?  ;D

I guess its a good game too. That little kid played so long he turned into an adult!  :o

Well, I mean I dreamt about a Star Wars cabinet, not THAT Star Wars cabinet.  I have tried to play that one on MAME, but without the yoke, it just doesn't work.  The fact that Paige got the fully functional cockpit for the cost of a yoke is just unbelievable.

Well, fully functional aside from the fact that my monitor needs deflection board work, and my boardset doesn't seem to be fully booting yet. But that doesn't matter. I would have paid that for the cabinet without the monitor or boardset.

That SW is a pretty sweet score!!  Sounds like it was really a great auction!

Glad you finally got a good camera, I've been looking at pictures of yours that look like they were taken through a sheet of wax paper, for at least a year now.  I'm surprised we didn't all pool together and give you the money for a camera by now. ;)

paigeoliver, I totally agree with you on buying the Star Wars cockpit especially after seeing this auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3282073164&category=13718) on Ebay.

FYI: Posted on RGVAC a few min ago...

Star Wars cockpit-- This is a ragged out cabinet. It includes power
supply, plastic star wars bezel (has hole cut in it where someone
mounted a gear shifter for car conversion), smoked monitor glass, has
marquee mounting stuff, coindoor & box, has sideart (the last one I
got was painted black of course), control panel. It has no wiring
harness, monitor, marquee, or flight yoke. The cabinet is in rough
shape, needs some bondo and some t-molding. Good project $175

Maybe he will trade you. ;D

I'm so jealous!

Star Wars WAS the game of my youth..."Use the Force Luke!"

You guys in the US have it good regards collecting. The prices seem very good as well (especially with current exchange rate).

I'm based in the UK and not aware of such auctions - anyone know of any in the UK?

Well, this one was pure luck. The owner sat across the street from an arcade auction with this thing in the back of his truck with a for sale sign on it for 2 hours before I talked to him. EVERYONE who passed by didn't even bother talking to him because they figured he would want too much.

Paige,

Do you suppose you could take some more pics of the cab?  More direct view as apposed to angled shots would be cool.  Also, how about some more close ups of top of the frame?

Thanks in advance.

How is the project coming along by the way?  Thanks

I haven't posted it yet, but I also have the bezel.  Paige, if you can take close up pic of graphics on the bezel, that would be great.

Erm, there are a lot of parts of the US where auctions don't happen.  Like most of the US.  I've never seen nor heard of an auction in New England.
