As a summer project (once the reconstruction of my front yard is done) I would really like to make a driving cab, but nothing too big. Would anyone happen to know of a set of plans for one of these cabs. Keep in mind, I have seen the Mameroom plans but they are going to be too big for the space I would want to fill in my basement (also I'm sure Mrs. GameCab would not be too cool about a HUGE cab unless it had a place to install a baby seat). I'm thinking about something the size of 2 1/2' x 6'.
Thanks
Charlie

I'm in for a set too!!

I don't think you'll find a whole lot of driving cab plans out there. I'm thinking you're on your own.
Some ideas I can give you
- Showcase-type cab with a seat built onto it
- Seat designed to be removable when not in use
- bench seat cab
dunno if any of that helps. Good luck

The ideas are helpful. I'm just trying to avoid going crazy with the CAD program.

Since space is an issue, the Hard Drivin' "mini" sitdown might be an acceptable design. It's barely larger than a standard upright cab.

You know, I think that may be perfect!! Thanks Tailgunner!!. I'm going to make up a Cad design for it tonight. This design will allow me the option to make modular control panels for a 360', 270' and a Flight Yoke. I'll have to document everything and post it on this site as a project when the time for building comes. The nice part about this cab is that I can build and complete it in the workshop and then transport it into the basement without any trouble. This is too cool!!
Thanks

There's this option as well:

Looks expensive, but it might give you some ideas.

I'd go for this type of cab - they are actually very comfortable to play, probably more so than many classic sit-downs...

actually... I'm also thinking about a sit down cab...
(ok.. only thinking....)
for a sit down cab.. I really want to have a real seat... like a real car seat....
but the whole thing needs to be able to separate into like 3-4 big parts... so that it can be moved.... (from garage to indoor... )
a sit down cab in 1 piece definitely can't fit thru a normal like 27 in door...
I'm thinking...
the base is 1 piece....
the car seat will be mounted on tracks on the base...
(since its real seat.. it'll be adjustable and is comfortable..)
and then the front piece holding the tv and the console/pc will be 1 piece....
(maybe the stick shifter by itself... 1 piece on the side...)
and somehow they interlock....
it'll definitely be kinda big.... but for a sit down cab... you simply just can't be cheapy and make those half stand half sit cab....
(well.... I guess when wife says no or simply space does not allow... that's another problem...)
sorry.... I typed sooo much but seems like no point... I guess I should stop now.... :P :P

hyiu, you'll wanna take a look at -->THIS<-- (http://www.robotics.com/chair/). It's exactly the idea you're thinking of, right down to the actual automotive seat.
GameCab, this might work for your purposes as well! Seems as if he just fashioned a desk over the leg area, whereas you'd do the same thing, but with the screen in place of the monitor. Dunno if you're looking to build a seat too, though.

It looks pretty good but I just started the drafting the HD plans last night ;D. I should be done with them soon. I really can't see a big problem in someone retrofitting a Pepboys type of car seat to the cab. Now if I could find a real Hard drivin cab somewhere on Long Island NY I would take the measurments of it. If any Long Islanders know of one please let me know, I'm basing the size of this to be at least 6' tall.

hi drewkaree
thx for the link.... yes, I have seen that one before... and it had inspired me a lot... (in cheapy words... I'm sort of copying his ideas shamelessly.... but I never said the ideas are mine !!... ;) ;) )
his is more like a desk, but I want mine a little more like a cab.... but yes, that's kinda what I'm thinking.... (with the front part will be constructed more like a cab than a desk...)
well... but for now... this is only on the drawing board for me... I'll need to first finish my stand up cab computer desk first.... heee hee...)
;) ;D

eh, i would just go out and buy an empty driving cab at an auction or something. i would think that without plans from somebody else, it would be harder to make sure all the dimensions and comfort level are right. i mean, you gotta factor in the way it will feel as far as you sitting in the cab, and you dont want to make the whole thing and be sitting in and all of a sudden, its too small or something. you could just get an already made one, and gut it. i think that would work just as well.
