Title: Removing decals
Post by: kahlid74 on April 02, 2004, 11:29:40 am
The Cabinet I bought has capcom decals on the sides.  I would like to keep these decals if I could, but if I start to try to peel them, they tear.

Does anyone have suggestions for how to best remove the decals while keeping them in tact?

Try using a hair dryer maybe?

In my many years experience of doing game conversions, I've found that it is a complete waste of time to try to save a decal. It will stretch, crack, fall apart, etc. Usually they are brittle and the slightest attempt at removal and they are destroyed. That's why many manufacturers sell brand new replacement decals & graphics. Many older games now have people making reproduction graphics & decals. It's better just to remove the old decals, throw them away, and buy new ones.

I've been able to use a hair dryer in most instances to remove decals, but they have never been reusable.

buy new.

Agreed, you'll never be able to save them.

To remove mylar from pinball playfields it has become very common to use freeze spray.

The freeze spray (can of compressed air turned upside down) will seperate the decal from the adhesive then the mylar or decal will be easily removed usually in one piece.

I have had very good luck with this method and I'm sure it will work just as well for decals as it does with mylar.

For details go to google groups and search for Freeze spray and mylar in Rec.Games.Pinball
