Hi all
Some of you may of seen this already on the MP3 forum, but I've put it here just incase some of you never read that forum.
I am currently writing a 3D Jukebox app to go on my arcade machine, and I'm going to give it away as freeware, so this is your chance to have a look at it and give me some feedback on what you want from your arcade jukebox.
you can download a BETA version from http://mysite.freeserve.com/3djuke/index.htm (http://mysite.freeserve.com/3djuke/index.htm)
Please leave feed back on the forum here or at the download site, even if you just say how rubbish it is! (at least I'll know)
Thanks for your time.

got a no way from work... sexual content...
must be popups or links at the top/bottom?
Well, I'll take a look when I get home... was hoping for a screenshot.
how about linking one here

Here you go...

Can't get it to work. I get the message "Unable to find any valid albums in folder "D:\Juke\" An album must contain both mp3 files and a bitmap image called "Cover.bmp".
Ok, I have a subfolder in "d:\Juke" with mp3s and a square bmp titled "cover.bmp". So, what's up...I think I'm doing everything right. I'd love to try this program...

Ok, fixed. The problem was...I only had one album set up....apparently the program requires at least two to work.
Very cool program...great start.
Now for my suggestions.... First, there doesn't seem to be any way to raise/lower volume that would be a great addition along with a mute key. And second, currently you can only switch from album to album with no idea what the next album is. What would be ideal is a folder/subfolder system so you could select the album (or genre) from one list then the song from another...or even a three teired system genre/album/song. If there were some sort of folder/subfolder system I would deffinately put this into a box (even without volum control). Great work!

Based on the screenshot, it has potential... my main suggestion would be to make sure it is usable with large collections... I have >900 albums (>85% mine :)) and most of these jukebox make navigating this a pain in the neck. Having nested lists like iTunes help a lot, but I'm not sure if that's the best solution...
Keep up the good work!

My comments... I know it's a wip, but I wouldn't have released it yet for two reasons:
#1 It requires a bmp file for each folder.
I have 400+ album folders. Sorry, but that ain't gonna happen.... I'm guessing others will feel the same. Also a bitmap image? Nobody uses bitmaps. Just mo but you need to switch to png or jpg or a file with a little bit of compression. 400+ bitmaps, even tiny bitmaps could potentially eat up more harddisk space than the music files in the folders.
#2 No tag support.
This one isn't super necessary, but it's really the reason a person would use a juke app over, say a frontend configured to launch mp3s.
Keep working on it, but for now Imo it's unsuable other than just for testing. It definately has potential though. :)

Update:
Revolving covers crashes the program with a memory access violation.
You can't scroll through the list; you have to keep pressing the up/down keys to navigate instead of holding them down...... put a timer on the inputs so it can be used on an actual arcade machine, otherwise it truely is useless. ;)

Thanks for your input guys :)
@Spaced Invader
Sorry it does require 2 albums, this will be fixed.
there doesn't seem to be any way to raise/lower volume
I have been thinking of adding the volume to the config app, and I will add key inputs as well.
What would be ideal is a folder/subfolder system
The reason I haven't added this yet is because it will require a Back/Cancel button, I originally intended to have all the player buttons do the same thing, so its not confusing to the user.
@Howard_Casto
I know it's a wip, but I wouldn't have released it yet
Its not released yet ;) just think of it as an open project.
#1 It requires a bmp file for each folder.
(Oops, I forgot to update the error message) it does support jpg :)
#2 No tag support.
I have already done the code to get the tag info, but wasn't sure if it was the best way to go, because a lot of my mp3's had wrong info, and would need changing.
Do most jukes use tag data? If they do, and most peoples mp3's have the correct tag info anyway, then I will use it. (Opinions Please)
I could add a bit in the config app to edit tag info.
put a timer on the inputs so it can be used on an actual arcade machine, otherwise it truely is useless.
Consider it done ;)

Okay I agree that it does need some sort of album overview, but how to seperate albums... By Genre (from tag info) or folder/subfolder?
If by genre then there would need to be an image for each genre.
(Please note there are 147 different genres)
Or if by folder/subfolder then there would have to be an image in each folder, but I suppose it is more customizable this way.
What whould you preffer?
