I'm using the last release of Arcade FX and mame.exe v58, I'm upgrading to mame.exe v61. Does anyone know If I can just substitiute the exe file or do I have to reinstall FX? ???

I believe you only need an updated database. Check his site if a new one is available. Also a while back Ed mentioned he will made an unlocked version available. If that is the case you could populate the access database yourself with Sortinfo.

Just thought I'd give an update - I installed v61 last night and updated the roms succesfully without reinstalling Arcade FX - good thing is that all my high scores were retained!
One thing I'm not sure about is whether or not new roms will show (haven't had time to check). I presume a list of roms is in arcade fx somewhere as they are sorted by catergory. If the database is for say, mame v59, where do the new roms from v60 and v61 that are not in the database appear?

As )p( mentioned above, only those games that are in the database will show up in ArcadeFX. You will have to wait until the developer releases a new version or request an unlocked copy of the DB and do it yourself.

Yea you have to wait until ed unlocks the database or if you feel you have a legal right to the data contained in the database you could always run a crack program against the access database. Not that i condone this sort of thing but it will work to get the password on the database if you feel you need it.

Man a locked database, that's kinda harsh. I don't understand his reasoning behind that one unless he uses some special info that he doesn't want to share.

It makes sense to lock it if the data is VERY specific for parsing or it's not human readable (like storing globs). Reduces tech questions.
Theres also another case that I deal with at the office. When the customers are dumb as doorknobs... but like to play with everything.
Troubles with it... if the database gets corrupt, your hosed
