Title: Save monitor glass or dump?
Post by: jimmyjet on March 19, 2004, 03:32:19 pm
I took a non-functioning 25" monitor out of a used up cabinet recently.  The monitor was missing all the circuit boards and wiring that should be present with a functioning unit.  Basically all I have is the glass.  Does this have any value or should I take it to the dump before someone drops it?

I would say dump.  Without the boards there's not much use for it, since you can get another tube from a TV shop for cheap, if not free.

Ken Layton, your opinion?

If the yoke, degaussing coil, and ground strap are still on it then the tube may still be good! Get either a brand new 8liners chassis for it or if you know what make/model the monitor is look on ebay for a used chassis to restore it to operational status.

If the yoke, degaussing coil, and ground strap are gone the chances are the tube is garbage and you should throw it away.

Thanks for the responses.  There is nothing there but a piece of glass.  Beautifully molded glass, but alas just glass.  Time for the dumpster.

I don't keep mystery tubes either. If it is just a tube, and I don't know the status of it, and don't have a compatible chassis to test it, then I chuck it out. I DO keep working tubes around though.
