I hate to do a "please help" thread but I've had no luck in the software forum.
This is the problem.
I am running XP and Mame32. Mame32 will not save the rom path ( or any other path for that matter ). When I check properties on the files within MAME they are all read only. I have tried changing the properties of the individual folders and also changing the properties of the entire MAME folder so that they are not read only but it doesn't save the settings. As a result each time a play on my cab I have to re-specify the directories which is becoming a big pain in the ass.
Anyone know what to do, I have Mame32 on my PC and I don't have this problem.
Thankyou.

Is the drive FAT32 or is it NTFS?

Are you the admin of the PC?

The drive is NTFS and yes I am admin.

Not sure if this will help, but in a dos box attrib -r /s *.* marks everything as writable below the current path. I did this on my install the other day when settings were not being saved and it worked fine (if you have a lot of roms it will take a while). Someone else can probably help with exactly what files need to be writable, but I just went ahead and made everything writable, they were only ever read only because they were copied off a CD.

On XP all folders are readonly. (doesn't really have attributes for folders).
You should check the individual files and make them writable.

I only wish this worked for the system files as well. I had to change a setting in my 'msdos.sys' file and had to move the hard drive to my XP box so I could make the change. If you try to do it, you get a 'Not resetting system file msdos.sys' message. PITA!!!!
