Title: Microswitches

Hello,

I've finally found a great place to get the *short-stick* Sanwa ( http://www.excellentcom.net/parts.htm ). I'm also thinking of getting those Japanese-style buttons to go with it for my cabinet -- will they work with a wooden control panel that has a thin sheet of metal on top of it (Moon Patrol)? Also, what microswitches do I need to get for the buttons/joystick?

Moon Patrol CPs don't have metal on top of them, unless this is something that was added.

Buttons and joysticks usually already come with microswitches, except sometimes leaf switch buttons, or if the ad says they don't.

I don't see why those buttons wouldn't work, except they might want a non-standard hole size, and it looks like you might need to solder wires directly to them.

My Moon Patrol cabinet definitely has a thin layer of metal above the wood on the control panel. It still has the side art, and the control panel despite having no controls in it has the holes of Moon Patrol (afai can tell), so I dont think it was modified.

When mounting metal control panel joysticks etc., how thick is the metal on the control panel usually? The metal on mine is pretty thin.

Tiger-Heli: Then why are they selling microswitches? Are you sure I Shouldn't order any? Can you tell from the web page?

They're selling Jamma connectors and Namco guns on the same page, but you don't need those either!

Seriously, they're sold as replacements in case the ones that originally came with the buttons short out, stick, or quit working (cheaper than replacing the whole button or joystick.)

Well, the pictures (detail ones) of the joysticks both show microswitches (BTW, the pink one looks like a Perfect 360 type setup, not sure how to wire it up, the red one is standard).  The pictures of the buttons show a membrane type switch like a keyboard would have, not a microswitch, but I don't think you can add a microswitch to them.  Wouldn't be crazy about those switches myself, but they should work.

You could E-mail them before you order if you need actual confirmation.
