Title: Happs Universal Joystick
Post by: SuperPacMan on March 18, 2004, 06:06:57 pm
Just got this in the mail yesterday from Happs. I've heard good things about it in 4-way mode and plan on using it in my first control panel project. I'm hoping it will be good for games like Donkey Kong, DK Jr., etc.

One thing I noticed about this stick after obtaining it is the plastic ring that screws in underneath to mount the stick.  There are no bolt holes to mount it with like other sticks. I'm wondering if this will be sufficient to hold the stick in place under heavy use. Has anyone here had any experience with this stick regarding this issue? Is the plastic ring really enough to hold it in place under stress?

Yes, it is plenty. I have had one of those installed in a game for a long time, and it has not budged.

They are great (4-way mode) for DK type games, but only so-so for the pac-man series.

Good news then. I heard some say they were good for Pac Man, but not perfect. That's why I'm putting a Ms Pac/Galaga stick in my panel as well. I was banking on the Universals for the DK games though, and am glad to hear your endorsement.
