Title: cutting hole for the coin door...i need some advice
Post by: hulkster on March 16, 2004, 12:23:17 pm
okay, i have a happs coin door (over/under) and its a 2 player one.  anyway, im going to cut the hole in the middle of the piece of wood in the front so i can mount the coin door.  my question is, whats the best way to go about measuring for the hole?  i mean, im not measuring the outside of the coin door, but the inner part, and that itself is curved on the edges.  how can i be as accurate as possible on this?  anybody have suggestions?

happ controls website.  Find the diagram for your door and it should have a cutting template

go to http://happcontrols.com

then search for coin door...

you can find the exact same coin door there...
then click on the explode mounting view...

I believe the door cutout is
7.30" x 19.80"

if you want to be sure.... try one on a cardboard...
(or scrap wood...)

drill a hole in the middle first... then use jigsaw and cut slowly...

hope it helps....  ;) ;D

and as always... when done.. plz post pics... we love pics !!  haaa haaa....  ;D ;)

I installed a new Happ Over/Under door. The inner lip measurements on the one I installed are Width=185MM x Height=503MM (roughly 7" x  20" in imperial). I documented how I did it on my website at http://www.garry.ca/construction03.html

Look for February 11.

Before I cut the real hole, I practiced on a pieces of scrap. Make sure you round the corners or you'll leave gaps.

Hope that helps...

Cheers!

You can also use a small paint can to draw the rounded corners on your wood before cutting it. If you need to take a little more off after the hole is cut try using a Dremel with a sanding bit installed.

Yeah, I screwed up by not rounding the corners last summer. I basicly just cut out a rectangle and sanded the corners until the coin door fit. And than I noticed two of the corners had gaps. Filled the gaps in with wood putty. After priming and sanding the coin door fit perfect, with no gaps.

So don't worry about screwing it up... you can always fix it later  ;)

Or..........

Cut the four corners first with either a hole saw or spade bit.

That'll give you nicely radiused corners, AND as an added bonus, holes in which to insert your jigsaw.

Everyone wins....   ;)
