Title: Coin door hook-up question
Post by: spauldingd on March 15, 2004, 07:45:26 pm
I recently got a coin door and I know how to hook up the lights the switch so that it will give me credit when a quarter is inserted, but it also has electrical hook-ups that I don't quite know what to do with.  The connection appears to prevent a person from losing a quarter when there is no power to the unit.  The question is, how would I connect that inside a MAME cabinet?  Or do you just not worry about it and block the mechanism so the quarter always goes in?

It appears to be some sort of magnetic latch of some sort.  I tried to apply 12V to it while testing the light bulbs, that that didn't work.

Thanks in advance!
Dave

thats called the Coin Lockout Coil. It exactly what it does, is that when machine is off, and someone puts coin in, it rejects it. But some games also use this. While playing the game, and when someone puts a coin in, it rejects it. I don't know exactly what game tho.
For us in home use, you don't need it. I took mine out. Take the coil out and the flap too.

Thanks!  Its good to know what its called.  I have never looked inside a coin door before and it soon became obvious that the coil thing needed power to accept my quarters.  I found I can lightly wedge half a wooden clothes-pin in there to keep it open or shut, whichever it is that works.

Can you pick up replacement bulbs at Radio Shack?

You can get replacement bulbs @ Wal-Mart, if you shop there that is.

As for the lockout coil, you can just remove it if it suits you.

What don't they sell at Wal-Mart!  I never would have guessed that.  I'll pick up a few #161 lamps on my next trip.

Thanks,
Dave
