Title: Defendarcade almost done.
Post by: jimmyjet on March 15, 2004, 07:04:54 pm
This is my second cabinet, Defendarcade.  Last night I finally got around to installing the coin door.  I am hosting an arcade party this weekend, so the push is on to almost finish it.  The artwork around the coin door will go on later this week.  There is no chance the sideart will even be started, but the fun parts are all installed.

A huge thanks to this website and all the people who frequent this board.  Without all your help, advice, and artwork this couldn't have been accomplished.

jimmyjet,

What size is your trackball?

Why are your buttons each 3 inches apart? How is that kid ever going to do Chun Li's spinning chun kick if he can only reach one button at a time?  ;D

Also, you could have actually fit that entire control configuration on a stock sized defender control panel, I just measured mine, and dual capcom layouts and a 3" Tball with plate just BARELY fits. It won't fit most classic cabinets, but Defender is just a smidge wider than most games.

Biggest problem I see is all that Jets stuff in the background :-)
Does that rub off on your game play?  Get all excited about being able to drop the quarter, then get yelled at for putting it into the wrong game.  Talk up the game and how it revolves around one key button, then if that button comes up lame, just pack it in for the night.  Then afterwards, get all liquored up and make a pass at Suzy Kolber?
Just couldn't resist  ;D
BTW:  Go Bears (I know, another dismal season awaits)

The only drawback i see in your cab is the monitor! Looks kinda small for a "party cabinet" but despite of that congrats, have a blast...  ;D

Looks great, however I have to go with the comment about button spacing from paigeoliver, the spacing is way too much.

1.  3" trackball
2.  good eye-the buttons are 2.5" apart.  This is the reason.  I tried to play asteroids on a friends machine with closer spaced buttons and it just felt too cramped.  With my big hands this was the spacing I arrived at.  I don't really care for the fighting games and play mainly the old classics.  The six button layout is in case that little guy you see ever wants to try a fighting game.
3.  I never even considered trying to fit all that in a stock size defender control panel.  That might be a project for next winter.
4.  I catch hell for the jets stuff all the time.  I have Broadway Joe immortalized on another wall.
5.  Someday I'll find that bigger monitor on ebay.  This is what money (read wife) would allow.
