does anyone know if its possible to buy the multilayered material used for the construction of CD' and or DVD's in sheets?
was sitting here at a pile of old dvd's and cdroms and thought it would cool as hell as a CP with an acrylic cover to keep tthe fingerprints off..
i searched the net for about an hour and all i could find was how they are constructed..

#1 the polycarb used in cd/dvd is shipped to the pressing plants in little pellets. And the presser heats the pellets for the moulds.
#2 ALL waste gets shipped to the polycarb factory to be recycled.

Why not just cover the CP with Lexan? You can get that at Home Depot.

I think he may have meant the shiny aluminum part.

you know what MIGHT look cool? if you actually used CDs. Just go to your local used CD shop or whatever..hell...a lot of times they're giving away Sampler disks for free (aren't they?) and make like 2 layers of them under the plexi....so it would obviously be CDs, but it's have a neat kinda look to it.
Just an idea. or use tin foil. ;)

i had seen that thread and that CP is kickass, and i would go to say was proboly part of the spark that brought this up...
i just thought the light bending qualities of cd's or even moreso the blue DVD's would give an extra flare.
but as was stated earlier in the thread, it doesnt look like its a possibility being a raw material thats not easily processed.
i had toyed with the idea of using disks, but i really wanted a solid uninterupted sheet to keep it tight looking.
oh well ,only a thought..

As I understand from the Fabback website, they also sell colored mirrors. Perhaps you can find a sheet of blue tinted mirror.
