Just wanted to say thanks to everybody that has helped the new vector library get off the ground so fast. The collection has grown from about 110 pieces to about 225 pieces in a few weeks. And just about every piece is print worthy.
I've had great responses from people here on the board, and it seems a renewed interest in tracing artwork. We've had links on boards & sites in Germany, France, & Australia, and in the US of course. Not that I really need the hits to my servers, but it's nice to see that it is not work wasted, that this is a valuable use of my time... to give back to the BYOAC community, for all of the help & inspiration that I've gotten.
Thanks too, to Zorg and his help uploading, organizing, contributing, and mirroring the library. Frostillicus, thanks for the tutorial that seems to have helped so many. Thanks to everybody else that has uploaded & contributed, and suggested improvements to the site (believe me, I still have a long way to go on the site)
That's all. OH, and maybe sometime soon, I'll make a general call for scanned art.... post it on the site or something, maybe put a link to an FTP drop box, uploading application, who knows. I'd like to get more people involved in tracing artwork. It's a big job to do one piece, so the more, the merrier.

NO... thank you for hosting the site. Its great. ;D
-
Yeah really, thanks for hosting the stuff for us. I guess a good library goes a long way to make sure people start tracing. Otherwise where do you put it when you're done?
On the scanned art, maybe you can work together with the people from CAGA. There are quite a lot of scans there already.
-
Indeed, thank you for hosting this stuff! I wish I could work as fast as some of the others here, but once I get that monster Galaxian side art done, I'll upload it and ask what needs to be done next.

I definitely give a big "THANK YOU" to you and all the others involved in getting the artwork out to the community. Sometimes I feel like I'm more interested in the artwork than I am in playing the actual games :o (a punishable offense, I know).
Keep up the good work everyone!

Thanks a ton - I am such a beginner when it comes to any graphics work. Your site helps me get some really cool graphics that I could not have done on my own.
-
THANK YOU guys, and to you mahuti for hosting, and to you Frostillicus for the excellent guide to graphiocs.
The artwork in my opinion you guys produce is top quality and I feel is one of the most important ingredients of any successful MAME build (obviously, the thing has to work though... ;D ). In fact, as I start to wind down on my cab build, I think I'll delve deeper into the graphics side of the house.

When this new library was put together, everything was uploaded by muhani. That means that everything that people worked on prior to that doesn't have their name attached to it unfortunately. Wish that was fixable.
-
That is fixable chief. :) I asked for everyone to tell me what they contributed so I could do just that. :D
Matter of fact, I've been doing just what you ask for the past few weeks for a number of users. I've probably updated about 50 pieces or so. Zorg has probably changed about that many as well.
If you are registered, just let me know what you did (or what someone else did, if you know) and I will make the change.
Whatever you guys want from this site, let me know, and I'll see if I can make it happen.
-
Can you perhaps set the owner of the ones you didn't update to "unkown" easily? That would prevent some confusion I think.

if you check yhe thread announcing the new repository you'll see that a call was made in order to give credit to the right author.
I just receive 2 responses. ;(
my memory is not good enough to remember who has done a particular art. I know some of them without error.
please if anybody notice that one of his art is not credited correctly. drop us a note either mahuti, either me. with the name of the art (better the link to the file, copy past is easiser) and we will correct the credit.

If creatorship is really a big deal I can un-me-ify those files. Really though, isn't there something better I could do with my time on the site? It is easy to change the name, like a few minutes work. Multiply that by all the unclaimed files, and the time really adds up.

Well that's what I meant. I just assumed that most of the original authors will not be coming around any time soon. So I thought maybe if you can easily change them then it might be a good idea. I also assumed it might be a MySQL database and then one query would transfer the mahuti's (maybe filtered on some selection to make sure your own work is still acknowledged) to unkown in a few secs. If not then indeed it's a waste of time. It's just a suggestion.
Personally I don't think the site needs much work though. Maybe I should think harder, but I can;t really think of something I miss. Maybe some extra classification options would be nice, but that would depend on people filling in the right values when they upload. Do you have some ideas that you are working on?
-
If I was a sql guru then it might be easy. ;D I'm not, though... so that would take more time than using the interface to figure out.
I would like to add an area for unfinished / unclean artwork. I have a bunch of stuff I haven't had time to vectorize yet, someone else might like to do it. When I make a general call for art scans, I want someplace for people to upload their work.
I still need to clean up the interface, but that's just gonna take time.

I just checked it out a lil while ago, lots of updates since i last went and im pleased how easy it is to see the new updates listed as there right there on the home page.
Just checked out Nannuu's Asteroids CPO and wow, its killer.
Great job everybody and thank you so much.

That would be a great idea! People could take some high quality pictures or scans and post them to be vectorized in addition to what you already have. It could be a place that others can come and find a "project" to work on. This would help take some of the burden off of you, Zorg and Stingray (and the other high contributors).
I wouldn't mind improving my skills with artwork needing to be converted.

I did that Midway logo, but I really don't care if I get props or not. It's nearly complete, but it's missing the trademark notice.
-
Ok, just came up with one request. Can it be set up to allow the owner to update the file? So theoretically if someone were to upload a cpo and have one line of text not converted to curves which causes it to become a different font? <cough asteroids cough> Uh, not that it would ever happen or anything but just wondering.

I thought it was already set up to allow the owner to edit the file.
try it.
if i'm wrong, I'll try to set it up.

OK, I didn't even try it! Excellent excellent.

I just remembered a "problem" I had during uploading. I was trying to see how big the thumbnails should be (imagesize and filesize) and ran into the "right click copyright notice". I remember a discussion about that and I thought the outcome was that you decided to remove that. Is it back or did you have problems removing it? Again, not something really important, but anyway.
-
AH.... I had a different template before. Where I removed that.
Using that 'flawed' template, any titles or descriptions that had apostrophes would break the application.
So I changed back to the default... which has that copyright notice... which I forgot to remove.
I'll disable that again.
