Hi I needed a break from my vectorising process so I decided to do a mock-up version of what my cab would look like
What do you think?
-
the marquee (quick draft, not yet completely vectorised)

Looking good! The artwork you've been working on is going to look great on that two-tone blue.

Thanks! :-)

Yeah, that's pretty cool. Amazing work!
-
It looks like a flashy 80's cabinet!
I personally don't like the vivid blue much but i couldn't plan better myself! Congrats! ;D
-
I really love the Artwork of the girl you've done. I've been following the progress of her since the earliest post.
I like the side art design with the surrounding diamond.
That said:
I think the lettering of your marquee looks too "cartoonish" compared to the rest of your artwork. You've spent so much time on getting her details; she looks fantastic.
This is just my opinion of course, but I think you should get a font that is a little more "sharp" and add some detail to it to match the detail of the girl. Maybe something with more of a technical feel. You know, straighter lines to contrast the curves of the girl. And shading.
Just my opinions. Ultimately this is your cabinet and you need to go with what you like.
You've definitely done great work so far. I can't wait to see the finished product.

all feedback is appreciated!

Hmm, I see what you mean. I was going for the b-movie approach, but agreed it doesn't really match the artwork theme.
By 'technical feel' , do you mean something like the old 'zoids' font? With bolts on each letter:

I also have drawn a classic pocket watch to use for the letter 'o' but it might be too cheezy.

Thanks. The only problem I have is that I have no clue where to get this artwork printed, I live in the Netherlands and haven't found a place where they would print it for me on a large sheet of adhesive paper. Most printshops only print when ordering 25 or 50 minimum and I only need one print (and one mirrored) of each picture.

Talk to Scott at the Mameroom. www.mameroom.com Tell him you were talking to Kostas for Canada.
I'm in Canada, and I got my stuff printed from him. And it was packaged like a tank. So there was no issues when I received the artwork.
Also, he charged me a fair price for the shipping.

Something along those lines. By technical, I'm probably thinking "mech" style. Looking at the original image you pulled the girl from, it has that sci-fi/mechanical feel to the background.
I like the groove running through the 'zoids' font. The bolts are a little big, but maybe it would look better with smaller bolts (like rivets in steel)?
Thanks for being interested in our opinions.

Here are a couple of examples of fonts from www.fontmagic.com (http://www.fontmagic.com). If you look for fonts by categories, these were listed under "Modern".
I just pulled down a couple of example fonts. They are:
aetherfx
alfabold
andover
bajoran
black wolf
blade runner

Seems like I had some trouble attaching the other files. :-[
It's probably easier just to head out to the site and browse the fonts. There's tons of free fonts out on the net to choose from. I'm sure you can find something that you like.
-
Ofcourse I'm interested in your opinions :-D
Thanks for the link! I also found a site with nice fonts:

This weekend I probably have some time to retry the marquee.
@GGKoul: thanks, when I finished the artwork design, I'll contact him.

FWIW, I like the font you chose.

Thanks. I drew the 'timezone' letters freehand.
I'm still looking for a mix of better fonts and the effect I was going for in the first draft.
-
I like it even better knowing that you drew it freehand. I assumed you did a "create outlines" of a serif font and then tweaked it. That's how I did my Mini Mayhem design. Very nice work.

-
Ah! I really like your Mini-Mayhem artwork! It's what made me switch from a classic arcade cab artwork design to something completely different. The mini is a great concept and the idea is very well executed.
Regarding my marquee: I'm currently between two worlds. I like the letter style, but I agree with Nuttman the contrast with the girl's graphical style is too big.
I've been looking for different fonts but I have not yet figured out how to handle it.
Anyone who would want to try to improve it is welcome!
-
I have to strongly disagree. She's cartoonish enough that I think she meshes very well with the cartoonish lettering. The bright blue and yellow color scheme also works great with the overall style. Change it if you really think you must. Once I see another design I might agree that it looks better, but as it stands I think it's just right as is.

-
I tried two designs:
Number #1 (new style)
-
Number #2 (old style, but reworked)
Which one looks best?
-
2 has the best font I think
-
agreed, 2 :)
-
Just like I've been telling you. The original rocks! You'll be hard pressed to come up with something better. I do like what you did to the background though. I can't wait to see this cab when it's finished.

-
Did you model this font after the font used in Twilight Zone logo?
-
Okay, I have to admit I like the second marquee better.
I don't know if it's because you've cleaned it up, or positioned everything nicely.....
Anyway, I really like the two-tone background. It definitely adds interest.
I think you've picked excellent colors for the lettering. That definitely ties it together with the girl.
Love it, and you shouldn't change a thing (unless of course you want to and it makes it look even better than it does now)
Maybe I should keep my opinions to myself as my wife suggests.
:)
-
I'll keep the original design (well the restyled original design) Today I made a test-marquee and I'm quite happy with it.
Thanks for the input! :-)
-
A picture of the temporary marquee in place. The white edges are a result from poor scaling settings, I didn't want to waste more photo paper until I finished the whole graphic.
-
I love everything about the marquee except the Courier for "Caught in the".
I especially like the two-tone sides on the cab itself.
Nice work!
