Title: JVL Vortex iTouch9 Boot Loop & Crashes
Post by: matttom on December 12, 2024, 09:10:39 pm
Hi,
I'm having a couple issues with a JVL Vortex. I already replaced the compact flash card to try to fix and had no luck.

It will sometimes boot up to the main screen, but usually freezes up shortly after getting there. It will usually crash with one of the messages below within 5 - 10 minutes.

Any suggestions on what to try to get this old feller back to working order?

See some screenshots below of errors I'm getting.

Replace ram

Thank you, I replaced the RAM and that got rid of those nasty kernal errors and red crash screens.

I'm still having issues with boot loops. On a cold power up I can get to the itouch screen and play some games. After a random amount of time (sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 2 hours) the monitor shows no signal and the PC seems to "restart" itself. On these unexpected restarts, the computer is never able to fully boot back up to the itouch main screen. It gets to the JVL loading screen and restarts again; this restart loop continues until you cut power and re-apply - after doing so, it boots up as normal.

Any ideas on the above? I've replaced compact flash, RAM, and fans.

Cheers.

Just a thought, but bad ram could be a side effect from a motherboard that might need recapping. Do any of the capacitors look bulged?

One of the caps looks to be buldging.. I'll replace and see what happens. All the others seem to look OK, though it might be worth replacing them all anyway.

No issues so far after the capacitor replacement. Both new RAM and replacing that cap seems to have done away with any bugs.

Thanks all!
