Title: WICO leaf joystick question
Post by: FractalWalk on March 06, 2004, 12:58:31 pm
I'm looking for a leaf joystick with a similar feel to the classic red-ball 8-way Wico  leaf sticks to play Robotron. I would think that I need a round actuator for that.

Does anyone know how this joystick switches from 4 to 8 way? Does it have a square or round actuator?

There were 2 threads about these sticks earlier:
- Leaf Stick Comparison (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=15328)
- Anyone ever used this brand of LEAF JOYSTICK? (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=15098)

Basically this stick is a cheap clone and the model I got was so poorly built that it hardly qualified as a joystick.

Hit Ebay. I've pieced together a few of them from buying (usually) cheap lots of junk joystick parts.

FractalWalk,The Wico clone uses a round actuator. I'm pretty sure all leafswitch joys both 4 and 8-way use round actuators. Microswitch sticks use a square one for 8-way and a round one for 4-way. I wouldn't waste your money on one of those Wico clones. Don't let the similar look of them fool you. They don't feel or perform anything like the real Wicos. My cousin bought two of them for his cab and he hates them. I have real Wicos (two 8-ways and one 4-way) on my cab and there is no comparison. He was impatient and didn't want to wait to find a couple real ones on Ebay so he bought them and now he's sorry he wasted his money. For the price they're asking for one of those pieces of garbage you can buy two used original Wicos on Ebay if you're patient. Believe me..even an old Wico with a worn out grommet feels much better then these new cheap knockoffs. Lately I've even seen a few brand new NOS Wico sticks pop up on Ebay.
