Title: Positional Gun Games - All Killer No Filler
Post by: bjhille on February 03, 2024, 11:05:30 am
I have built a couple of Mame cabinets now and LOVE the "All Killer, No Filler" Games list.  That really helps narrow down the games one should be looking at.

As I'm working on my positional gun cabinet (think Aliens Extinction), what are some of the games that people would consider "All Killer"?  The games I think should be on the "killer list" would be:

Anything else you think should be added to this list?

Thanks.  Brian

I am working on this myself right now. My goal is to have all the available games, that used these types of controllers in the arcade, be on my cab. Honestly, there are so few games that I will have all of them.

I am not home right now so I don't have my game list. But, I think you are missing a few that I would have.  Will post a follow up later!

Good luck with the build!

House of the Dead 4 is positional?

That list looks like a great start for a Lightgun based cab, but I do not think it is locked down to "Positional" gun games, several on that list are, but certainly not all of them.

What guns are you using?

Unless I am missing something, there's really no difference between positional and other gun controllers at the game level, at least where emulation is concerned.  Positional guns are just a fancy analog joystick at the hardware level, and most gun solutions can either support this natively or with the help of additional software such as Vjoy.  In the other direction, I suspect MAME would be able to map the "joystick" style guns to lightgun games as well.  At the end of the day, it's just a button/trigger press and a set of co-ordinates and both systems deliver this.  The only challenge is alignment, but that holds true with either system.
