Title: Brand new at this
Post by: MPTech on December 15, 2023, 04:39:53 pm
Would GREATLY appreciate a suggestion / solution.
I built a Virtual Pinball Cabinet about 3 years ago and recently saw that some of my old favorite arcade games can be played on it!
Full ROM set v0.229 and installed the latest MAME (0.261b 64-bit) and associated files on my C: drive.
Copied about 15 ROMs to the MAME ROMs folder (only a select few Vertical games).
Most of them play GREAT, but 4 won't launch: Burger Time, DigDug, Galaga, and Q*Bert.
Error: Required ROM/disk images for the selected system are missing or incorrect. Please acquire the correct files or select a different system.
Burger Time: about 30 (files) missing: V0a-.7e (decocass) - not found, V0b-.7e (decocass), dsp-3_p0-a.mp, etc
DigDug: missing 2 files: 51xx.bin (namco51) - not found and 53xx.bin (namco53)
Galaga: missing 2 files: 51xx.bin (namco51) - not found and 54xx.bin (namco54)
Q*bert: missing 1 file: Sc01a.bin (votrsc01a) - not found
I don't know what it's telling me or how to fix it.

I thought it may be a version issue with the MAME.exe, so I found and DL'd the 0.229 MAME zip, created a new MAME0299 folder and copied the games there.  Same result.
Then I thought the MAME version may be too old, so I found and DL'd the 0.260 MAME zip, DL'd these 4 ROMs from a new 0.260 set, created a new MAME0260 folder and tried that.  Same result.

Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated.  I'm brand new at this and don't know how to resolve it.

I also tried running Zaxxon and it runs, but no sound.
I'm getting this error: There are known problems with this system: Imperfectly emulated features: sound.

THANKS!

Some games need additional device or BIOS files added in the "..\mame\roms\" folder.

You can find a list of what you need for each specific game in the database on ArcadeItalia.
- Search by game name or ROMname.
- Scroll down to "Files" and click on "Show Mame required files."
- Select the version of MAME you are using.

DigDug: missing 2 files: 51xx.bin (namco51) - not found and 53xx.bin (namco53)
Galaga: missing 2 files: 51xx.bin (namco51) - not found and 54xx.bin (namco54)
Both games need the "51xx.bin" file which is found in the "namco51.zip" file.
Dig Dug also needs the "53xx.bin" file which is found in the "namco53.zip" file.
Galaga also needs the "54xx.bin" file which is found in the "namco54.zip".

adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=galaga (http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=galaga)

Q*bert: missing 1 file: Sc01a.bin (votrsc01a) - not found
Q*bert needs the "Sc01a.bin" file that is found in the "votrsc01a.zip" file.

http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=qbert (http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=qbert)

NOTE: The database entry shows that Q*bert also uses a sample (sound) file.  That file goes in the "..\mame\samples\" folder.  The game should play without the sample file, but will be missing those sounds.

Burger Time: about 30 (files) missing: V0a-.7e (decocass) - not found, V0b-.7e (decocass), dsp-3_p0-a.mp, etc
On this one, it looks like you're trying to run the DECO Cassette (https://www.8-bitcentral.com/blog/2014/decoCassette.html) version of the game. (ROMname cbtime.zip)
If that is the version you want, you'll need the "decocass.zip" file.
http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=cbtime (http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=cbtime)

If you want the normal Data East arcade version (ROMname btime.zip), you will only need the "btime.zip" file.

ABSOLUTELY amazingly detailed answer to ALL of my issues!  THANK YOU VERY MUCH Scott!!!
Arcade Database (adb.arcadeitalia.net) is a VERY helpful site, I was able to identify everything and all of my ROMs work now.  I didn't realize I needed multiple ROMs for some games, I thought just the basic was enough. Now I know better and know how to resolve it going forward.  Also changed BurgerTime to btime.zip, even better!

Final minor issue, is there a way to get sound for Zaxxon?

Like Q*Bert, Zaxxon uses sound samples.

From the 'All Killer, No Filler MAME Gamelists Directory' sticky in the Main Forum:

Sound Samples which can be found here: http://samples.mameworld.info/ (http://samples.mameworld.info/) are needed for the following games:

Astro Blaster
Buck Rogers
Carnival
Space Panic
Vanguard
Zaxxon
