hello all, which tv monitor should i get (in inches i mean) to properly have the size (on mame) of a real 4:3 arcade monitor? the one you would find in cps2 cabinets?
i mean a winde screen monitor of course, then mame will crop it to 4:3

honestly the days of accuracy have long past. even the commercially available 4:3 LCD monitors that have cropped up lately have many shortcomings, and are honestly only supplied for compatibility reasons.
just shoehorn the biggest 16:9 monitor you can into your chosen cabinet and crop it down if you wish to show 4:3 size.

A real arcade monitor would be the proper size and it would look fantastic.

Yes i do that already, in fact what i meant is which modern 16:9 monitor is the big enough to have the right "size" of a cropped 4.3 monitor? as in as big (tall) as a real arcade monitor would be?

A real arcade monitor would be the proper size and it would look fantastic.
I have a crt of the right size and resolution but God forbids it works with modern hardware or it looks decent (via scart or s-video).
back in the day i remember there was the arcadevga card but neve worked for me

I realize that this may not be specifically related to your query...
While the size and weight may be more than you are looking for, after playing on multiple different display technologies, I've really been nerding out on my older plasma displays.
They are a middle-ground between CRT and OLED, usually have a wide selection of legacy input options and can be found dirt cheap on the 2nd-hand market. After doing the lag compensation on one of the guitar games on console, I was surprised to see the lag compensation number come up at 0ms! I think I would be surprised to see that even on a modern OLED. And to top it off, little if any "motion-smear". YMMV depending on the set, but the higher-end Panasonics are usually the best to be on the lookout for.
IMHO, if you can deal with the weight and power consumption, they are still one of the best 16:9 format display options for classic (and even modern) gaming, especially if on a budget.

yes, the refresh rate on plasmas was like 400hz or more... something like that? with so it has a very smooth framerate comparable to CRT.
i think the smallest plasma TV size was 32 inches so you wont be shoehorning that landscape into a cabinet anytime soon,
but, with the most popular being 42... a 42" rotated 90 degrees could be cropped off to a pretty close 4:3 (as the second link in my post above)
