Title: Colour (color) problems when rotating monitor
Post by: garyh on March 03, 2004, 08:46:57 am
As my favourite ganes are vertical and my cabinet will be MAME dedicated I fancied permanently rotating my monitor. The problem is that when I try it the colours go all strange.

Anyone know if this is cureable or if indeed this is even advisable?

TIA

Gary

It sounds like you need to de-gauss your monitor. That's what's causing the color distortions. There are a few different way to do it, Try searching on this forum, or googling it.

Thanks PMF.

Searching would indicate that most monitors have degaussing coils that activate on switch-on after the monitor has been off for 30 mins. I've always rotated it straight after switch off so I'll try after waiting an hour and see if that helps.

if you think you may be rotating in mid-session--i.e. going from vert. to horiz then back--you could also try a manual de-gauss coil--that way you won't have to wait for the monitors built in one to do it...you could just do it yourself.  the realbobroberts sells them, or if your crafty, you could make your own from a dead monitors degauss coil.

Many thanks for the pointer PacManFan, no colour problems after leaving it 30 mins before rotating. Glad I asked the question before starting work on the bezel etc!

Thanks for the response Menace, but I'll be leaving it vertical.
