Title: Replacing 60 in 1 jamma VGA setup with Raspberry Pi
Post by: bluecoffee on January 22, 2023, 02:57:23 am
I have a 60-in-1 board connected vai a JAMMA harness. I'm using the VGA from the 60 in 1 to run a VGA flatscreen monitor.

I would like to swap the 60in1 for a RetroPie setup, by replugging the Jamma harness into a new board, but still continue to use the VGA monitor. It's a two-player cabinet with 6 buttons and a joystick each.

What's the simplest way to do this?  Ideally I'd like to avoid soldering tonnes of pins onto an adaptor, and a Raspberry Pi to JAMMA adaptor https://pcbjunkie.net/index.php/raspberry-pi-to-jamma-adapter/ (https://pcbjunkie.net/index.php/raspberry-pi-to-jamma-adapter/)  seems like overkill, as I don't need analgoue CRT video output.  It also has high voltage capacitors on it, which I don't want as I don't need to risk being zapped...

Is there any board that would allow for a straight swap, plug and play from my Jamma harness to the Pi?

Should I wire an iPac board to a Jamma connector? Is there a pre-built solution somewhere?  Or something completely different?

Many thanks

What you want is something like the XinMo 2P controller which will turn the joystick & buttons into a USB controller for the Raspberry Pi.  Then you will need something to connect the Raspberry Pi to your VGA monitor - either an HDMI to VGA adapter or board which connects to the GPIO pins.

If you do some kind of HDMI to VGA, better look into any latency issues before you invest in it.
