Title: Spinner to change axis from X to Y
Post by: Tommy714 on January 12, 2023, 04:51:25 pm
I have two Ultimarc Spinners, and I want one to be the Y Axis.  In order to do this I am going to utilize the Trackball pins on an I-Pac2 for the Y axis.  I found a previous post on this topic, but I have an additional question.

My problem is that the wires I've got on my spinner are not in the order stated below.  They are Brown, Green, White, Yellow (see picture).

I guess my question is (with the pins visible as in the picture), what order should the wires be?  On the I-Pac2 board the order is 5V, Y1, Y2, GND

Here is the link to the old topic:

I have a I-PAC2 encoder as well. But it uses the „X“ axis as well and I can‘t find any settings in the WinIPAC tool to change it.
Can someone please give me a hint?
If you aren't using the trackball pins on the I-Pac, pull the Yellow, Green, and White SpinTrak connector pins from the Dupont housing and change the wire order to "Brown-Yellow-Green-White" to use the I-Pac trackball Y-axis pins.

Default SpinTrak Dupont housing wire order: (left)

SpinTrak wire colors:

Brown    +5 Volts
Yellow    X1
Green    X2
White    GND

If you look at the IPAC spinner pins, you'll notice that is the order for them. (upper right)
- If you want to put two spinners on one IPac, I would rearrange the spinner wires to match the trackball inputs.
- Electrically, a trackball is the same as two spinners.

That is the order for the trackball pins. (left side)
- Arrange the wires for both SpinTraks in that order.

SpinTrak wire colors:
Brown    +5 Volts
Yellow    X1 (top row) or Y1 (bottom row)
Green    X2 (top row) or Y2 (bottom row)
White    GND

It worked perfectly, kinda, and I'm not sure why.  The wiring harness was plugged into the Y axis on the I-Pac2, and it was moving the X-axis of the mouse.  I switched it to the other set of pins (the X-axis), and it worked perfectly.  So now that I have a spinner for the X axis and one for the Y axis does anyone know a ROM for an Etch-a-Sketch?

Actually, the purpose of this activity was to have two player ability for driving games like Badlands and Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road.

Works perfectly now!

Thanks
