Hello All,
Been researching the best way to install the MARQUEE. I understand the part of sandwiching the graphic between two pieces of plexi. My question is, what are the different wayt to install the plexi? Here are some ideas I've gathered so far...
1) Route a slot in top and bottom pieces (speaker panel) and slide MARQUEE in that way.
2) Buy the HAPP Marquee Reatainer. Questions I have here are
a) Anyone have any pictures/info how this is installed?
b) Anyone have any alternativ methods (i.e., bying a piece of PVC at HD?)
3) Builld a frame and I think SCREW the marquee to the inside frame? Anyone do this and how does it look?
4) I can think of using Velcro and use this. Might not be too secure though, eh?
5) Use Mirror Clips. Anyone use this method? How does it look?
Any additional info from you guys would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Garry

1) Maybe I am not understanding this method, but once you insert the marquee, how do you get it out?
2) a) It is really simple to install. The marquee retainer presses the marquee sandwhich aganist the frame of the cab. First you cut 2 pieces of the retainer to the size of the marquee. Then you screw the top part and bottom parts of the retainer into the cab.
b) Some people have used 90 degree angled black metal brackets. I believe they got them from HD and painted them black. They looked just as good if not better than the Happ retainer.
4) Velcro would be plenty strong, but I do not know of anyone who secured it this way.
Good Luck!

I believe the corner molding ( moulding, for you Brits ;) ) has been recommended before. You can get it at any Home Depot (or other Hardware Store). It's actually called Corner Bead and can be found in the Building Materials Section (usually near the drywall). It usually goes for ~ $1 - $2 USD for a 10' piece. They are either constructed of metal or plastic and there are several different profiles to chose from. An overall good, cheap alternative to Happs Marquee Retainers.

There's many ways to do it, I stole my double dragon II cabinet idea.

I know this isn't a great picture, but here is a shot of the Happ marquee retainer (top part - bottom is stock).

I hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread...
My cabinet has an odd shaped marquee.
It's exactly 24 inches long and about 30% taller than a standard marquee. However, the bottom third or so is covered by the metal speaker "grille" area that wraps around from underneath.
The bottom is held in by the aforementioned "grille", the top is held in by a plastic piece that is like a rounded corner and is held on with 3 screws into the top of the cabinet.
I'm not really happy with the nonstandard marquee size but what can you do. I'm sure when I get my own custom graphics up there that are sized and proportioned properly, it will probably look good. I'm even thinking about cutting back some of the grille to expose more marquee glass. If it's gonna be non-standard, maybe it should be REALLY non-standard.

Thanks Guys for all the excellent suggestions so far... That's what I love about this board. There is such a broad set of experiences. 8)
Here are a few responses...
1) Maybe I am not understanding this method, but once you insert the marquee, how do you get it out?
I was at a friends place and he had to unscrew the speaker panel to loosen up the MARQUEE and get it out. He had in a Zaxxon MARQUEE. I guess Not something you do every day...
b) Some people have used 90 degree angled black metal brackets. I believe they got them from HD and painted them black. They looked just as good if not better than the Happ retainer.
I was at HD toniht after work and was "McGuyver" on the hunt at for a subsiturte Happ Retainer Clip from HD (yep, impatient and el cheapo, maybe I can find and paint something for $3.00...). I found a MDF plastic side piece |___| you use for shelve sides. It only Came in white. Did anyone ever use that??

Very Nice... So you cut a slot in the top piece and used an angled piece for the bottom support. What exactly is the angle iron piece you are using on the bottom? Can I get this at HD?

Question: What is the Best way to install the MARQUEE?
So it doesn't fall out!
Seriously though. All you need is a piece of corner molding top and bottom holding it up there.

2) a) It is really simple to install. The marquee retainer presses the marquee sandwhich aganist the frame of the cab. First you cut 2 pieces of the retainer to the size of the marquee. Then you screw the top part and bottom parts of the retainer into the cab.
I bought the HAPP Marquee Reatainer (they sell it by it 10 feet, except you get two 5 feet strips)
Do you attach it from the inside, or outside of cabinet. Soslo's Double Dragon looks like it's screwed in from the bottom, or outside of the cabinet? If so, can you use glue instead of screws, to attach it?

I drilled 3 pilot holes and put in (3) 3/4" black screws from the top of the cab. You can see the screws because they are on top of the cab, plus the top has a slight down/back slant to it.
