Title: This should be interesting
Post by: Mike A on August 08, 2022, 09:56:59 pm
I just bought 16 CRTs from a guy for 200 bucks total.

I had to drive 4 hours each way, but it will be worth it in the end.

I will post the status of the haul here.

I need to add a shelving unit in my basement to store these.

I will get to that later.

First monitor plugged in...

Works just fine. I haven't made any adjustments yet.

Ok, so just keep teasing.

$200/16= $12.50
Plus fuel

Want to triple your investment + and send me one for $50.00 plus shipping?
 >:D

Now I am starting to wonder what year my TPG shows actually-

Sorry. No accessories.

Are you looking for something in particular?

I might have it lying around my shop.

I tested 3 more. All Good.

2 x 19k7901
1 x 19k7203

I will get a bunch more tested this weekend.

It has been slow going because I have to make room for all of these in my shop.

Just some shelf space juggling.

Only 10 more to test.

I really look forward to an Alpha Centauri visit at some point.

It is funny. People will fly halfway across the planet to visit here, but an hour drive is too much for a lot of people.

Heh. Finally a broken monitor. I was adjusting the vertical hold and it went into vertical collapse. I will fix that up after I test all of the other monitors. Figures the warranty is expired. What a ripoff.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220813/8bf6df94522feafa57b66363969a7e1b.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220813/ceb959d72b00c30cd46c303cc378366e.jpg)

What a score those are proving to be- except for the wareanty bit of course.
Those ---daisies---!

I have one of those chassis with vertical collapse too.
Let me know what you do to fix it and maybe I can learn something useful this month!

vertical collapse...either the TDA chip or the resistor feeding power into it has gone open or out of spec... or both. (usually the vert chip fails, goes shorted output and overloads the resistor, blowing it open.

Vertical collapse is one of those failures you are kind of glad to see.

Straight forward problem.

Now I have a D7700 with a bad flyback.

Is there a source for those?
Title: Re: This should be interesting
Post by: Mike A on August 13, 2022, 08:05:32 pm
I tested all of the monitors.

out of 16...

1 has vertical collapse

1 has a bad flyback

1 works fine, but has a chewed up anode wire. It needs to be replaced.

3 of them have tube burn that I consider bad. They will need tube swaps.

Not bad for 200 bucks.

With all those good spares it sounds like you should be building something!

I really wish I knew where to begin with fixing chassis.

I know what lilshawn said was english and useful but it may as well have been written in cantonese.

Hehe.

We all start somewhere.

lilshawn knows a lot more than I do.

I am just removed the anode cup and I am going to pull the chassis and throw it on my bench.

Bad ass.  Hook up your Saturn - it has native RGB.

I already do that.

I have it hooked up to an arcade monitor.

I also have it hooked up to a JAMMA adapter I built so I can play it in my JAMMA cab.

How do you remove/replace the anode cup?

This is something I've wondered about as I have at least one flyback (for a TV) that seem OK but needs a new anode cup.

Post by: Mike A on August 13, 2022, 09:56:30 pm
Misunderstanding.

I removed the anode from the tube so I can work on the chassis.

But, I do have one monitor that has a chewed up anode cup.

Arroyo said he has replaced the anode wire and cup on a flyback with a donor from a television.

He is going to show me how to do that when he comes out here in October.

Ah ok, sorry and thanks :D

Maybe, if you remember at the time, taking some pics and posting would be appreciated   :notworthy:

It can be done with an HV splice kit and a donor anode cup :)

I would figure maybe that would be possible with some good soldering and adequate heat shrink/rubber electrical tape/silicone treatment?

Thanks butters. Have you got any links to a "HV splice kit", or can you explain how that works a bit more?

This kind of thing...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/254887941195

I imagine a general-purpose HV splice kit would also be fine, so long as it was compact enough overall.
