Title: Keyboard encoder on a USB hub?
Post by: Maxforwardspeed on May 25, 2022, 10:17:17 am
Looking to use a USB hub for my keyboard encoder and trackball so I can make some room for lightguns. I'm looking at an unpowered hub with a 900 mah combined limitation. Does anyone know the actual power draw on the encoder (ipac 4) and trackball? Or have a recommendation on a USB hub for this application? Thanks.

Haven't measured the precise current draw of those two devices, but you'll have no problem powering them with any unpowered USB hub.
- Total current draw will be less than 200 mA, even with the four LEDs in the trackball optical circuits drawing 15-20 mA each.

I've been powering a Mini-Pac, UTrak, TT2 spinner, and a dozen or so low-current-draw button+trackball LEDs using an unpowered USB hub for over a decade.   ;D

Thanks Scott! I'll just pick up a cheap one in that case!
