I have an arcade1up machine and would like to make my own riser to the controls up to a playable height. I'm 6 foot 5 and having just the machine on it's own, I have to bend WAY over to play. How far from the floor are actual arcade controls ?
-
its as tall as it was designed to be.
buys 3/4 sized machine and then complains it's not big enough?
anyway, they have a riser you can buy for it... because, of course they do.

I suspect at 6'5", you always had to bend down a bit, but the A1up's without a riser is little kid height. The actual riser for a A1up is 12" tall, which puts them real close to normal height. Some taller people have put 2-4" lifts in addition to that.
Here is my collection of games.

The Tempest is a Arcade1up on a riser and it's right at 37" to the controls
The Galaga is an original machine and it's 38" to the controls
The Golden Tee is an original machine and it's 37" to the controls
But do whatever works out best for you.

There's only a few inches in it - I'm making a cab for my 54" wife and other small people (some call them "children"), and the CP is still at 36" - only 1" less than leapinlew's Golden Tee.
The great equaliser is a stool. A stool puts the display at the same eye level for almost everyone.
I use a stool always anyway, except when playing for just a short time. I've had a laundry-list of issues with my feet and legs over the past 2 decades, and standing for long periods doesn't work well for them at the best of times.

I have my caberet on a riser when me and a fellow 6'2" gamer realised it's a bit low. I'll try and measure the CP height tonight to give you an idea

Why are Australians so damn tall?
-
I'm 5'11" and have longer than average arms and still prefer the front edge of control panel for machines I build to be at 37-38" from the floor.
Probably more important for someone taller than average is where the marquee starts infringing on view.
I set the lower leading edge of those to be no lower than 4-5" shorter than me- so around 66-67" from the floor.
I am talking about upright style here.
Cabarets often have screen face at a much shallower angle and so could get away with a lower height marquee/top shroud without it being an obstruction.
But I prefer to not be staring in the direction of my feet while playing anything.
:dunno
If OP really wants to beat this topic to death I can measure what I have built and post it.

;D
Maybe it's cos being down under, we get stretched out hanging upside down all the time!
I think the Dutch have the tallest average height.

I thought it was all the Vegemite!

I’m not short but neither is any Australian I’ve met, and I’ve met a bunch of them. They used to come to San Antonio to club monkeys where I worked because it was banned in your country.
:dunno

You work in a place where Australians go to club monkeys? You can keep those guys, we don't want them back, we ban that kind of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- for a reason.

Hey, I've been to San Antonio! I didn't even know that is where The Alamo is! Loved the Riverwalk, that was something special 🙂
Back on topic, the CP on my machine is now at about 1000mm. The riser I made is 40mm, and it now feels right. If you are a lot taller, maybe 1010mm would be good. It's approximate because the panel is quite sloped. This is my machine:

I'm a little late to the party but I wanted to add that I'm 6'4" and I leave my games stock and use stools for that authentic experience. I have a few sprinkled throughout the basement that folks can grab and move as needed.

Why are Australians so damn tall?
Because they need to be able to run from all the animals. :laugh2:
