Title: Where to put track ball (noob)
Post by: loony on February 28, 2004, 08:04:39 pm
Planing my first CP and wondering where to put the track ball. I don't want to smack the glass playing Golden Tee.

I have looked at "Examples" and most of them where close to the Monitor. What I am looking for is recommendation, on how for from the monitor to put the track ball.

Put in the middle of your panel.. and if your planning on playing golden tee. make sure you leave room for the upswing....

It's all matter of preference and how big your control panel is going to be.

There is no standard.. Read the FAQ and look at examples plans.

I would guess that about 12 inches from the top of the trackball to the edge of the screen would be plenty?

This is what I tell everyone who asks about control placement: Build a to-scale mockup (even if it's just out of cardboard) and see how everything FEELS to YOU.  Maybe - based on the way that you play - you only need 4 inches from the glass...maybe you need 10 feet.  Practice making a big trackball "upswing" on your mockup and see where you hand goes.
